Stupid question about luggage carts

My husband and I did this same trip with the duffles last fall, and they were heavy to carry through MCO and the resort...

Get a porter or bell services person to help you! Well worth the amount to tip them.

When we are traveling heavy, even with a strapping young lad to help and wheeled luggage, we get to the luggage carousel fat MCO and find a porter with a nice big cart. He (there are women in sure but so far we haven't seen one) gets out bags off the carousel and takes us where we are heading. DME if we are using it but arriving too late for the luggage delivery aspect, or to the rental car area.

At the resort get a bell services person to help again!

Makes it so easy and compared to the cost of a vacation it's almost a negligible increase in the budget.

If no one knows here if your airport has porters or easy luggage dropoff (you could pull the car up near a dropoff, let everyone but the driver out, and they wait for you to get back and you all check in), check on their website or even ask on flyer talk.

I've used a luggage cart like you're talking about before and didn't like it. One, it was almost worthless given how short the walk from car to luggage check was, and two because I wasn't thinking ahead, it made my bag over worth, and I had to pay that fee.

Would way rather tip a human to tote it for me.

exactly!! lol

To NorthernGrl.. Please do not take offence to my post

It is my " Groan " moment.

I am in the Q for check in ...... In front of me is a large number in a family group

3 adults & 9 children And a Huge mountain of luggage...... 24 Bags

24 bags to be weighed in .... & tagged .... & 12 passports to be processed

We will be here for AGES ........ oh come on ..... where is that booking person going ?

Now what is happening . ? ........... ( a person is taking stuff out of a case ... as it is overweight & will

cost a fortune in extra fees ) .

Stop tapping me on the shoulder ..... oh sorry .. I did not see the waving hand of that nice check in person.

Good Luck & Enjoy your holiday .

If you cannot have a laugh ......... life is not worth living

No offense taken...
I'm sure we will be that group of people more than once. lol
We will have with us: a toddler, 2 kids with autism and another with anxiety and my mom has back and knee issues. Maybe we shoul bring candy and alchohol to pass out as thank yous to those we inconvenience. lol

Be careful of the size of your duffel bags. Standard luggage size limits checked bags to 62" (L x W x H); if they are too large fully packed, you will get hit with some MONSTER oversize baggage charges.

Why not ship your heavy stuff to the resort? That would save you a few tote bags and a lot of hassle.

Yes, I was just going to say... you can check 24 bags for free! Even with car seats thrown in there, you'll have plenty of luggage space. I would go to Goodwill/yardsales and find a cheap suitcase that the luggage carts will fit in. Stick the carts in the empty suitcase at the Southwest desk, then give duffles to SW, then cart-suitcase and car seats. I also like the suggestion of a hand-held luggage scale. Yes, you can try to weigh the suitcases yourself, but it's kind-of a pain. I've seen the scales at Target for about $10 and am going to get one myself. We fly several times a year, and it's annoying for DH to have to weigh himself, then get on the scale with the suitcase so I can read the combined weight, then subtract to see how heavy the packed suitcase is. I always like to be a couple of pounds "under" to allow some wiggle room. You also might want to take an empty duffle in the cart-suitcase (if it won't make the cart-suitcase overweight, and if using it won't put you over your 24 checked-item limit); that way you'll have space for souvenirs and room to shift things around, just in case anything IS overweight.
Word of warning, cheap ones may be worthless. I have one that is supposed to hook to the handle and work similar to a produce scale at the grocery store. Note, I say supposed to. It doesn't. It doesn't even come close to weighing a full size suitcase. I go with the idea that if I can easily lift it off the ground it's less right at 50lbs. If I struggle to lift it, it may well be too heavy and we need to redistribute.

Eh, if you need 24 bags, take them. I know it can be an annoyance to other travelers but honestly, you really need not worry about that. Bring what you need for your family and the others can wait.
When we fly SW we bring 2 bags each and I never feel bad about it. Now, we are a group of 4, not 12 but still, 12 people are going to take a while, be it 1 bag or 2, or none. It is what it is.
