Stupid question about Lego Adven Calendar

I was excited to open the Lego advent calendar I bought for my son as I read online you are supposed to load the bigger pieces at the bottom. Well I expected there to be an actual calendar- not just the toys you open each day in the countdown to Christmas. Can anyone help me out and tell me why there is no calendar that looks anything like the box included. Just 24 lego toys wrapped in cellophane that I have no idea what they are supposed to be?

Thanks and sorry if this is a really idiotic question:rotfl2:

which version? its like a typical avent calendar... they search for the date, punch open the window and get the figurine/piece of scene for the day. just like the chocolate ones... but with a full scene at the end. I purchased both versions this year and didnt look closely, but for sure on the city one it is assembled (unlike playmobile)... so you dont open it!!! you simply allow the child to open the apropriate window each day.

Yes, what she said.

It sounds like maybe you opened the end and pulled the tray out to see all the toys just wrapped. Just pop it back in and tape it shut (if that is the case), open the flap part that is usually taped shut and that is where the dates are to punch.

It is designed for you to open a "door" each day and remove that toy. We saw one on display at the Downtown Lego Store in Orlando last week.

So I think the previous poster was correct and that you just opened the box and removed the complete tray. Just put in back in, tape it up and you should be in business.

We liked the Lego knights advent calendar the best.

I haven't seen this year's calendar, but if it's anything like the ones from previous years the box is the calendar. There should be little perforated flaps with numbers on them somewhere on the front of the box (or under a larger flap which covers the entire front) which the children are supposed to punch out to remove the toys each day of the countdown.

We always get these. You don't open it. The kids just open one numbered flap per day until Christmas.

Getting up every morning in December and opening one of the flaps is pretty much the highlight of my son's days! He puts the toy together and makes a little "display" on the flap part. Big hit around here!:thumbsup2

My boys LOVE Legos but I have never purchase the calendar.

What do you get per day? A figurine? :confused3

Last year every third day you got a person. The annoying part - but this is a self induced problem - because we decided at the beginning to rotate who got to open the door (I have three kids) and keep the legos in the door my middle son got all the mini-figures because they were spaced throughout the calendar so that you got one exactly every three days. The other days were little mini kits that the kids could build (a tree, sled, etc.) which are very simple. The fun thing was the flap was a background so you could place the kits and figures once built to make a mini winter scene.

I've always thought about doing a Lego Advent Calendar for my DS but wasn't sure what was in it and was afraid it would be a waste of money. However reading this thread and finding out what kind of stuff is in it, I may pop over to Target today and actually buy one this year. DS would love it!

We got the Knight Castle version for this year. Did the City version last year. It was really cute. There was a hot cocoa stand, a snowman, skaters, a sled with gifts, I can't remember them all but it was really cute. My son loves all the figures. He gets the box that lists all the individual pieces and counts the heads to see how many mini-figures there are! :rotfl2:

If you look on Amazon I think they have all the pieces shown put together out of the box.

If you've already trashed the box, can't you just make most of them into ornaments and hang them on a tree? We had the advent calendar years ago and still have the ornaments lying around, so I think that's how that one worked.

just bought it for my dd10 this week. She did it last year and loved it.

New to this but possibly interested. How many different ones are there in a year? What price point shuold I be looking to pay for one?

I think Target has them (may require a coupon for $29.99. Toys R' Us has them for $34.99, which is the usual price point. Lego.com has both the kingdom and the city sets. Target has only the city set. Shop around to get the best deal. Last year, the calendars sold out early. I have seen a lot more of them this year though.

Ahaaa! That makes sense now. I will look for the hidden flap. I must have been very tired when I opened it. Thanks for the help:santa:

Toys r us only had the city one. I know Targwet has a coupon, normally around Thanksgiving, but I am now working and don't have time to get to the stores like I used to so I grabbed it when I found it!!
