stupid question about food going through security...

Stupid question -

Is a home made cheese ball dip thing allowed through security? Like to be eaten on the plane.

My pregnant traveling companion craves this dang cheeseball (and truthfully, so do I!!!), so I was thinking of suprising her with it for a snack on the way down. But not sure if I would be able to get it through security.

It would be in a small tupperware dish.

Technically it's not a liquid or a gel. It will hold it's own shape with no help, which is how they usually decide.. HOWEVER, if you happen to get a TSA agent that disagrees, (or was hungry ) they could take it. It should NOT be a problem though.

You should call the TSA or the airport to ask. It's anybody's guess right now what is o.k. and what isn't. We had a story on the local news about the TSA confiscating a little boy's Play-doh set that was a Christmas gift from his grandma. We didn't have any problems with DS7's Play-doh when we flew in May. Obviously I don't know you, but you probably don't fit the profile of the sort of person who would disguise an explosive device as a cheeseball. Unfortunately, there's a deficit of common sense in airport security that requires all the rest of us to be prepared for harrassment, inconveniece, and seizure of otherwise harmless property under the guise of "making us safer" and "acting with an abundance of caution."

Sounds like you are asking for trouble...also I am sure this will draw at least some questions...slowing the line...I vote for leaving the dang cheese.

Cheese shows up as an explosive on the scanners, Found this out hard way with package of cheese sticks which triggered a full bag search and explosives check of each item (read each cheese stick).

Helpful TSA dude suggested NOT bringing cheese on board as x-rays can't tell diff between cheese and explosives so cheese is treated as explosive.

So I guess at the Airport Cheese stops you up in multiple ways...

So sad cheese is my favorite snack - but I always wondered why they never sell cheese snacks at airports now we know

DANG! There goes that idea! Assuming, though, that I can bring a peanut butter/jelly sandwich through security, though? Hmmm. Maybe I will do a cheeseball sandwich thing with crackers. Think that might work?????

Yes, you can bring spreads if they are already spread on whatever substrate you'll be eating them from. Make up some little cheese cracker sandwiches and it will be fine.

I've carried cheese through security on several occasions and never got stopped or wanded or screened for explosives - although it's mostly firm, solid cheese. If you have problems it will be likely if you are carrying cheese that has a pastelike consistency, which cheese spreads often do. I can't say I've ever experienced that passengers carrying cheese are always stopped.

IMO it would be a crap shoot because to me, at least cheese balls my family makes is, again IMO, more firm then a spread. But I would bet they base it on a spread so it may not be allowed, unless you put it on the crackers before hand (which is what I think someone suggested).
