Do you need a ticket to visit Downtown Disney?

I guess I'm not completely grasping the entire concept of what it is. Is it just basically a shopping/dining area that anyone can visit regardless of whether or not you are going to the parks?

We are only spending two days at Disney parks, but we have a two hour drive from where we are staying with family while we are in FL, so we are coming to Disney the day before we go to the parks to hang out at the hotel pool, etc. so we can get up rested bright and early the next day and be ready to hit the parks. I thought if we didn't need a ticket to go "downtown", we would could visit there as well on our "free day" before the parks.

Thanks!

Nope, you don't need a ticket unless you go to DisneyQuest or Cirque du Soleil.

It's a lot of Disney shopping and restaurants that's not inside the parks. It's a great place to walk around and enjoy if you have time.

I think its great to get an extra taste of Disney even if you are or arent going to the parks....its free and thats where we do most of our shopping for souvenirs as opposed to the parks...

Downtown Disney can be a fun place to walk around and shop. Not sure how old your child/children are but my DD used to love to play at the Lego store. They have tables set up for the kids. DH and I used to take turns watching her while the other did some shopping.
