Stupid People at DH's work

We added DD onto my DH insurance that was supposed to be effective Jan 1. Well I pull it up online and it doesnt show she is covered. So I call the HR office and ask about it . They tell me "well it was effective 1/1 but I havent faxed over the info to our agent yet" WTH? Her other insurance was canceled as of 12/31. So if I would have had to take her to the ER yesterday it would not have goe through because they hadnt done their part. Stupid people
 
Actually, that happens quite frequently. This time of year is VERY busy with renewals, open enrollments, etc., and the timing does not always match up perfectly. Our group changed to a new carrier effective 1/1, I sent the enrollment forms on 12/18, and we still do not show up in their system.

I am not sure why the paperwork has not been faxed to the agent, but I don't think you need to worry. On our old policy, there was a 10 day "grace" period. So you could send something until 1/10 to back-date to a 1/1 effective date. But after that, you were SOL.
