Do you really need to call her stupid? She lost her baby, I'm sure that she feels badly enough, you know? What parent hasn't made mistakes? Yeah, this kind of mistake has worse results than most, but what good does it do to call people stupid or say that people need a license to breed? If you've got a tired, frazzled parent who's running around, I could see how it could happen. It's sad and tragic, and it really sucks that it happened, and it shouldn't have happened, but nothing is going to make it un-happen, and I don't really see the point in bashing someone who made a mistake and paid the ultimate price for it. She's got enough pain to live with for the rest of her life. Feel sorry for the child, and feel sad that it happened, by all means. But please think about the weight of your words before you say them. And thank your lucky stars that you've never been the one to make such a mistake. And before anyone says that they would never make a mistake like that - I'm sure that every parent who's ever done it would have said the exact same thing.
There are alot of details that will be filled in over the next day or two....but at this point the two parents have been charged with neglect and the child was released to "other family members".
I don't have a comment on the AZ mother cited above (don't know anything about it), but regarding the couple from Orlando who according to the story that i linked:
- left the child in a stoller (alone) in 90 degree heat (god knows what the Orlando humidity was).
- child was found approx. "45-60 min. later" & the parents didn't appear for "50 min. after that". ALMOST 2 HOURS!
- have frankly told odd stories in their explantion.
Other threads on the Dis board & other boards are repeating the "shouldn't be allowed to breed" comment that i find distasteful....but are also commenting in far stronger terms.
Many are hypothesizing that perhaps the kid was "napping" and they didn't want to wake her & figured they could sneak a ride or two in.
It's probable that eyewitnesses &/or cameras will flesh out what exactly happened. (if the mom & dad "rode" pirates together, how on earth could they "forget" a 3 year old on those bench seats during loading...for ex.)
In regards to someone being "stupid" if they left a child in a stroller in 90 degree heat.....imo that's the mildest comment one could make.
I mentioned way upthread that this event was likely criminal .....& evidently the Orlando police suggest that even if "a mistake was made" a crime was committed, so apparently they agree. If tapes or eyewitnesses suggest the parents knowingly left the child there.....this thing is going to "blow up" & will be a media firestorm.
Being a parent is a priviledge & a responsibilty....not a right. We as a community (or country) have a responsibility to protect ALL of our children...it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.
Thank god a WDW patron "found" the sleeping/comotose baby & that the POC CM's acted properly & swiftly.
