Ok, we have a gas stove/oven combo. The burners are working, the broiler is working...but the stupid oven refuses to heat up.

The kicker is, I made a cake in there about an hour ago, and now I need to bake some cookies. So it worked this morning. DH is not in, so I can't get him to help. Any thoughts about what I should do?

It might be a fuse. The same thing happened to us about four months ago. I baked in the morning and it was fine. Tried to make dinner and no oven? Strange. We had to have someone come and look at it. He said it's pretty common:confused3

We've had to replace the "baking igniter" in our gas stove twice (we've lived here 9 years). Exact same scenario as you described. Everything else worked, just couldn't heat the oven. My dh bought the part at a local appliance store and replaced it himself. I just asked my Dh and he said "an average handyman could replace it" but didn't think I could have done it myself (I'm not handy).

Too bad we're not a little closer to Bothell. I'd send dh over. He could fix your oven and we could introduce our miniature schnauzers!

Could you ask your DH what it looks like and maybe where on the oven it's located? I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to this kind of stuff LOL

Maybe some day we can have mini meet up! :)

Same thing happened to me not too long ago. Something on it had to be replaced. (Big help, I know. )

If your oven has a "delayed start" timer, check to see if you accidentally set it. (Been there, done that.)

It could be the thermostat went and now will need to be replaced.
Or else the heating element shorted out.

You may have to call and have it fixed.

As explained to me by my husband - It's located right next the long tube where the gas comes out. The long tube probably runs down the center of the oven. The igniter was towards the rear of the oven. The igniter itself is a 3/4 inch diameter round tube that is several inches long. You have to partially disassemble the bottom of the oven to reach it. You have to disconnect electrical wires to remove it.

He just took it out, took it to the store and bought a replacement and popped it back in. DH grew up around this kind of stuff. I couldn't do it - my handiness doesn't go much beyond changing a lightbulb!

The heating element! That's what had to be replaced!
