Stupid observation

This is something that my friend noticed during our last excursion to the Universal universe. It shows near obsessions and the abundance of time on our hands. He said I should post it here for a good laugh.

The hand rail on the moving walkway is actually slower then the floor. This is true at least on the moving walkway on the far right, when exiting City Walk, when this walkway is moving towards the garages.

I know, it's stupid, but check it out next time. Stand on the walkway facing the handrails. Try to have one of those white dots on the rail be parallel to the center of your body, and place both hands, separately, on the rail. After a while, you'll notice that your hands and the dot have relatively shifted position and are now somewhat lagging behind the rest of your body.

I titled this "stupid observation" for a reason...

You are absolutely correct! I noticed this the first time I went to UO after they put in the garages. I was standing there holding the handrail and talking to my wife when I noticed that my hand was falling behind the rest of me. They probably have the handrails running on the same motors as the walkway but, since they have further to travel (they are higher than the walk and have the bigger wheel to run over at the ends), they fall further behind.

Yep, I've noticed this too! It's surprising how many escalators and walkways have this problem. I nearly tumbled over leaving Heathrow airport last week when the handrail was moving so much faster than the escalator itself!

Talk about experiencing it all...LOL.

Now I will definitely try this when I go back!!!! LOL....

Thank you for sharing.

I found, through my own excursions, that the name Christian Kubsch can be found in at least two places in USF. One is in BTTF, on the top level. The other is in the NY area, where he is listed as "Christian Kubsch, MD". Hmm...

That's quite an observation too! Wow...out of all the times I've been I never paid too much attention to the details (but then again, I haven't been in the park as much as you have Dark Marauder!! :p )

Since I started working in the parks, I try to find little things that are often overlooked or may not be well known. I also like to walk through parts of the park(s) that are away from the main paths, because they often have hidden theming there.

-If you really look into the "shops" in the NY/Hollywood area, you should be amazed by the immense attention to detail.

-If you ever get a chance to, look at the Enchanted Oak Tavern at night. The eyes in the face not only are lit, but change color frequently.

I look into the Enchanted Oak Tavern next time I go...if it even gets dark before the park closes! :p

I've noticed the "shops" over in the New York area. I remember the first few times I went (though I was younger) I thought they were real shops...too bad they aren't! lol. I think a Macy's in Universal Studios would be quite nice :p JK

I'm a simple guy......;)

No really, I think it's so great that people can notice the little things too. That is loyalty!!!!!

Are you calling me disloyal?!

lol j/k...:)

I guess I just spend too much time looking at other things than the details throughout the park... ;) :p

Maybe that's what this tread should become, a place to post odd little observations.

I always like to notice the engineering logic behind the resort. For example, I always thought those blue gate things around City Walk area were weird looking, until I realized that they were made for the intention of having plants grow on them. Eventually, in a couple of years, City Walk will be totally encapsulated in foliage.

I always wondered why the big building that houses the Multiplex was painted that deep purple. Last time I was there, I realized that at night you don't notice the building. You can still see the building, but it's not as noticeable as if it were black, or dark blue. That color purple is very non intrusive at night.

Notice that a lot of the architectural designs for the permanent part of the resort are classical or grandiosely simple, like the walkways to the parks, or the entrances to the resort or garages, or the Globe itself. This is to avoid dating these parts that are going to be around for a long time. There are a lot of things at Disney where you can tell in which era this past century they were built in, such as the parking lot entrances, or the Future World section of Epcot.

While we're on the subject, has anybody noticed that while Disney park icons are at the center of each park, Universal park icons are right outside the gates. Also, the way I see it, the icon for IOA is the Lighthouse, the icon for USF is the Studio Gates, and the icon for the entire resort is the Globe.

Anyway, that’s enough useless observations from me. Anybody got anymore?

While waiting for the Petrodyn (Sp) Fliers, I noticed a bunch of banannas growing. Most likely in by September those babies will be ready to eat.

LOL..... Call you disloyal????

That would be sacrilage!!!!!!!!

They don't get any more loyal than you!!!! :D
