Man linked to MD burglaries because of cell phone
Cell phone leads to suspect in burglaries

Posted: 02/03/2011

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Police in Silver Spring, Maryland, say they were able to identify a suspect in a string of burglaries because the man left his cell phone charging at one home.

Montgomery County police say Cody Wilkins jumped out a window and fled when the homeowner's son came home last Friday, but Wilkins forgot to take his cell phone with him that was charging in an
electric socket. The phone led police to Wilkins, who was also linked to other burglaries.

Skowhegan man arrested after trying to get loan to pay bank he robbed:

SKOWHEGAN, ME -- A man sent to prison for armed robbery at a Madison credit union in 2008 was arrested Monday at the institution's Skowhegan branch as he attempted to get a loan to pay court-ordered restitution for the robbery.

Lieberman was taken into custody Monday afternoon at the credit union's Skowhegan branch on East Leavitt Street after a teller recognized him from the robbery, police said Tuesday. "He said he just didn't realize it was same corporation," Skowhegan police Officer Ronnie Blodgett said. "That just doesn't even sound right, that he went back to the institution that he stole from to get a loan to pay off what he owed them."

I guess that's robbing Peter to pay Paul . . . ;)

I love stupid criminal stories. Not only are they entertaining but they makes it easy to catch the criminals.

PSA
If you are an idiot, don't break the law. You are going to get yourself arrested.

The stories are hilarious though.

I'd bet that his thought was he'd default on the loan - thus robbing the same institution twice! What a moron.

My favorite was from the late 50's in New York City. Six robbers with guns went into a large downtown bank near lunch hour. The felt they easily outnmbered the three guards.

However, the bank was at Foley Square, directly across the street from the Federal Building. This was long before direct deposit. There were 15 FBI Agents in the bank doing paycheck deposits.

Needless to say, the robbers did not succeed.

Two teenaged brothers pulled an incredibly tasteless prank on a funeral home. One called and pretended to be the father of the other one, who he claimed had died. He ordered a $10,000 casket for his "son."

Now I would have thought the funeral home would have needed some kind of deposit or at least a signature, but this was in a small town, and I guess they believed this "man" had lost his child, and so they ordered the casket.

The funeral home actually tried to pick up the body at the hospital, only of course there was no body because no one had actually died. The funeral home accused the hospital of losing the body and called the police to report it. (um...nothing's *impossible* but losing a body comes pretty close). It turns out the boys had used their REAL NAMES and the police knew who they were. :sad2:

I don't know if criminal charged of fraud were filed due to the boys' ages, but my guess is if the police were already on a first name basis with them, it's only a matter of time before they do something else. :sad2: It also seems like really bad karma to say your little brother is dead while pretending to be a grieving father...
