stupid circuit city question

Circuit City has not been able to float money and is going to liquidate. Stupid question: We bought a TV there in November. We bought the extended CC warranty. I suppose that's just money down the crapper, right? Or do they assign the warranty elsewhere?
And if we have a CC card and got it all 18 months same as cash (no interest if we pay it off in 18 months), will those terms be honored, or can whoever takes over start charging interest?
Yes we knew they were having issues, but our local stores were not on the closing lists, and it was about $600 cheaper than Best Buy, where the salespeople really bug me.

It's whirling around the porcelain as we speak. Your only hope is if the warranty was actually issued by a 3rd party that would provide the repair instead of CC themselves. No one is being assigned anything from CC. What was announced today was that they were ceasing all business at all locations and that all of their inventory has been sold to several liquidators (it looks like a lot of CC stuff will end up in future Tiger Direct catalogs!). Cash from that sale will mostly go to pay taxes and creditors. Other than that... it all just goofs POOF!!!

The card isn't from CC, it's issued by Chase. I assume the terms of any promotional purchases would still be in place as Chase isn't going anywhere (yet, anyway). You've owned the money for the TV to Chase from the day you bought it. Chase, as part of the transaction, gave CC most of the money from the purchase (less their merchant fee) and would have given them a cut of any interest that you would have paid.

According to CNN Money.com Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are not affected by the liquidation. I don't know exactly what that means, but if I were you I would call customer service immediately and get more details. You paid money for the extended plan and it should be honored or refunded asap.

I too have a credit card with them also. This shutdown will have no impact on your no interest deal neither should it affect you card in any way. It's not credit through Circuit City per say...it is a Chase Visa. (as the PP said)

Then it must be that another company actually issued the warranties and CC basically just putting a "wrapper" on them.

MOST extended warranties are a 3rd party so you should be fine. Ironicly I just went to the circuit city website & it comes up as "We are updating our site" UH HUH RIGHT!!!

Funny, I just checked a few minutes ago and all was fine... I had to chuckle at the "7 Great Reasons to Shop at CC" article that was featured!!!

I got a laptop from Circuit City in 2005. I believe my warrenty is through September of this year. If I needed repairs, where would I bring the laptop?

I would appreciate any answers to the warranty question too. I bought a digital camera with a 2 year extended warranty that covers everything including accidental damage. If anybody finds out what will happen with these warranties let us know. Glad I bought the really good one at Best Buy.

We purchased 2 TVs there for Xmas and got the extended warranty on one of them because it was an open box purchase. Our extended warranty is thru Asurion which is the same company that Verizon uses. We have dealt with Asurion before when we have had cell phone issues and they have always been very easy to work with.

DD15 just went to the CC website to look at Ihomes and the site is down. :sad2:

Just called CC. Because it's not their warrenty, it will still be good. The rep said that those customer's will be contacted once things are figured out.

I worked at one of the stores that already closed, and they are in fact backed by a third party. But be careful buying anything, they can't return defective merchandise so you are out of luck.

oh we won't be buying anything else. But I'm glad to hear about the warranty. I'd hate to have a tv go poof--our 2 year old dryer needs a circuit board and I did not pay for the extra warranty.

I called the service center and they gave me a new number to call from now on. 800-878-1167. They said that this was GE repair, which would be doing the warranty work from now on.
