I was born and raised in So. Cal. I was down in San Diego this weekend and I met a couple from Orlando. All of the people from California were complaining about the humidity this weekend as it was REALLY muggy. The folks from Orlando were saying that it was WONDERFUL and that this was nothing. This really got me nervous because we are going to Orlando in November and I'm not sure how to pack and what to pack and does humidity feel like smog where it hurts your chest breathing? I'm really not stupid, I've just never lived in extreme humidity.

First of all, not a stupid question!! If you've never really experienced it before then of course you don't really know what to expect.

The good news is, by November the air in Florida has usually "dried out." My dad lives down there and he looks forward to mid-October or so when the real oppressive humidity goes away. Then it's just warm and pleasant to be outdoors.

Humidity doesn't "hurt" to breathe, but it just makes the air feel thick, and it can feel more difficult to get a good breath. You can definitely feel it when it's really muggy in Florida! Some say that when you leave the A/C to go outdoors, it's like being mugged by a wet washcloth!! :rotfl:

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it, given the time of year you're going. At least it's not July! :thumbsup2

.

:rotfl: Wet washcloth, that is great, my favorite description is it feels like breathing thru wet gauze. It just makes you feel sticky. It doesn't burn your eyes or chest--thank goodness. I thought it was a very good question.:wizard:

Hi we are going to Orlando for the first time next May 19th for 2 weeks. We live in the UK so have no idea what it's like to expereince humidity!!:confused3 So can anyone tell me what to expect in May? Will it be hot but without the humidity?? What sort of temps can we expect then? Thanks;)

May is not too, too bad. We did our yearly pilgrimage to the "World" this past June, and it suprisingly wasn't all that humid. July, August and September are the worst. It isn't just humid, it's OFFENSIVELY humid.

HI! There aren't any dumb questions. I grew up in Kansas so I know humidity. I live in Arizona now and we have humidity in July, August and some September. The humidity in Florida shouldn't be that bad in Nov. We go in Jan/Feb and it isn't bad at all. Actually somedays the only way I know there is humidity is the way my hair frezes and goes straight at the same time. Thank goodness for hair ties. LOL Another good thing is if my hair is acting up than so is the rest of the peoples. LOL Enjoy

I was born and raised in AZ and I have never experienced 'real' humidity. I'm planning a trip to WDW for the last week of June next year. I'm so glad someone asked this question, as I was wondering myself what to expect!

I was born and raised in So. Alabama and moved to San Diego for two years. We would laugh to ourselves when we heard the people from CA talk about how bad the humidity was. I always thought that they were never make it if they went to the south and experienced "real" humidity. It is just a wet, hard to breath kind of air. You will sweat a lot but it is tolerable. You will be fine. Remember to stay hydrated if you feel you are getting too hot.

My experience in living in a place known for humidity all my life is that in the Summer everyone complains it is too humid, and in the winter everyone complains it is too dry. It is kind of hard to describe humidity. Unless it is also hot outside, it is not anything overbearing or difficult to deal with. It is nothing like smog or even fog. The air just feels a little heavier and your hair might frizz. When it is hot outside, humidity can be a pain. In the summer, the heavy air can make it feel significantly hotter than it actually is. Think of a steam bath, if you have ever been in one, but not quite as extreme. Humidity is what creates steam baths. When it is hot, we have this thing called a heat index that releates to the humidty. That means the weathermen will come on and say it is 90 degrees outside, but to the body it actually feels like 98 degrees.

I just thought of a much better example that everyone should be able to relate to. When you get out of your shower and your bathroom is all steamed up, that is humidity.

There are two affects with humidity down here. In summer, it is hot and sticky. You sweat a great deal and your clothes stick to your skin. In late fall and in winter, it acts quite differently. While there will be more "dry" days than humid days at this time, there will still be some over cast and humid days of the month. When it is cold and you have high humidity, you have what people refer to as Bone Chilling Cold. You cannot seem to shake it off. It seems to penetrate your warm clothing almost. To the skin it will feel much colder than the actual temp. That is why a 52 degree day in the south with high humidity feels like a whole lot more like 30 degrees.
