Stumped! What to get my own DD for 5th B-day????

Here's my 2 cents...DS is turning 4 tomorrow:cool1:
He does not need anything for any reason! We had a family party and got a lot of nice presents from his friends and family. I notice in your signature that you have a surprise trip planned. When do you plan to tell her? Could that be what you give her as a gift? We are going in August. For his gift at his party, I had a bag that had a new pair of MM Crocs, a MM t-shirt, and an envelope. There was a note with 10 Disney dollars telling him we were going to Disney World. We booked the trip in Jan, so we told him when he asked that we would go again when he was 5. When he opened it up and we read the note, he thought for a second and said "I don't have to wait to be 5?!" It was great! GOod luck with your planning!

Thanks for all the great ideas....she is having a pool party with all her friends and then she'll surely have another party when we go on vacation with the grandparents this summer...we live in LA and our entire family, except my brother, are all in VA....so be are doing the beach in July and then she's hanging out there for 3 weeks and will get completely spoiled by 2 sets of grandparents and other extended fam.!!

I think I may use the party as her present and maybe just get her a new bathingsuit & towel for that and just load her up on dollar store coloring supplies since she loves to color and draw so I have a little something to give her ON her actual b-day!!

Not telling her about October until about a week before....otherwise she'll drive me bonkers about it :)

Has she scrapbooked at all? Maybe an inexpensive digital camera and some album stuff? Or just the album stuff and get pictures printed.

My DD turning 5 only asked for a party, so that's all she's getting at the moment.

Thanks again everyone. I hit Toys R Us today for some shopping for other parties and wandered down the crayola aisle....LOTS of stuff was buy one get one free. So I stocked up on sidewalk chalk & paint. One set was with an Ariel stencil and lots of other goodies. Also picked up some of that moon sand. I think between this and the pool party, we're set.

I did like the scrapbooking idea....she's in her playroom now drawing and cutting....guess I may need to assist in vacuuming up all the little bits of paper :)

My DD's 5th bday party is tomorrow and I was stumped on what to get her as well as she already has a lot. We ended up buying her a digital camera. For kids.

My daughter turns 5 on Tuesday! We got her the Disney version of Candyland; she'd been wanting the game desparately for a while and I was psyched to find the Dis version. Also a Disney memory match game. Both from DisneyShopping.com. She also got a Disney Princess scooter and will be getting roller skates as soon as I find a helmet for her. Another thing we got just for fun is a Disney splash mat, it's a 4-square plastic mat you hook up to your hose and it makes a sprinkler effect.

FYI, the EZ Bake Oven is now rated for age 8 and up. If you felt strongly that you wanted something similar, there is a Disney Princess "cold bake" oven - I've found it at Kohls and Target - that uses ice to "cook" the cakes. The cakes are pretty easy to whip up and don't taste horrible, and are easy to clean up after.

We have an Easy Bake Oven - it's not that cool after the first time. My kids would rather help me make cookies in the oven.

I've got one in the garage that's been used once. Sounds like a recurring theme! I'll second the 'pass on the easy bake oven' suggestion.

Does your DD love books? There are some fantastic classics out there that she might enjoy.

Or you can go with the best gift of all -- a giant empty box. Let her figure out what to do with it.

I'm having a hard time thinking about my DDs gift and I have 6 months, so I know it's not easy. Normally, we've gotten DD a small toy or something to play with but also something more of a keepsake that she doesn't really get to use. My family did that for me and by time I was 16 I had a fabulous collection of jewelry, fine papers, pens and other collectibles. I didn't appreciate it until much later but they are priceless to me now.

Don't fret over the gift. Your DD will get so many other things and won't remember who gave her what. I don't mean to be rude or flippant about it, but if I asked my daughter about her gifts it's only certain ones that she knows who gave it to her, for which birthday, and if she ever loses it or has it taken away there is complete and utter devastation. The others, well, they're in toy limbo all shouting 'pick me, pick me', but alas they never are.

Let her eat cake for breakfast and you'll be the best mom ever! She's definitely remember that for years to com.

Best Wishes and Happy 5th B-day to your DD!!

We don't give our children b-day gifts yet either. With birthdays that cost around $600 that is their gift. If you really can't think of anything she needs I wouldn't buy. My girl's get at least 30 presents each from family and friends. That is already too much. When they are older I will buy them gifts right now they are happy with the gifts from others. The only present we ever buy is from Santa and ususally my dad splits that with us.
