Stuffing vs. Dressing --- What Do You Say?

I've always called it stuffing. My grandma calls it dressing.

I have heard it called filling as that is what my inlaws call it. They are from Lancaster County so that makes sense.

I was raised with cornbread and sausage stuffing.

When I first moved to Maine, a friend invited me to her home for Thanksgiving. Eating the stuffing, I noticed that among the soggy bread were... potatoes?! I had never had potatoes in my stuffing. She was from Aroostook County, land of Maine potatoes.

While I had not had potatoes in stuffing before, I had eaten potato filling in Lancaster County, PA. I thougt that was a potato side dish with seasoned bread crumbs. Didn't make the connection that it was "stuffing" that could have been inside a turkey.

I have never heard of cornbread stuffing. Actually, I'm wrong. The first time I heard of it was the other day on this thread. lol
