Stuff You're Saving Up For

I'm currently saving for a train ticket. I want to go to Middlesbrough for the summer, to see my boyfriend. I live about 5 hours away so the train is very expensive it costs about £100. I haven't seen him 7 months and so it really is something i need to do. Actually i just applied to a job to earn some extra money :)

I'm american, but I have always thought it was so cool that there is public transportation like, between cities where you live. we don't have that at all. I never actually saw a cab until i went to disney world, hahah.

what do you mean you don't have public transportation between cities....like, you have to drive to get to the next city?! there are no trains or buses or subways or anything like that? that's crazyyyy if that's what you mean!

there are NO subways in tennessee, i honestly don't know where the next closest one is. and sometimes I see public buses in the city i live in, but i don't really understand how they work or where they go. but I've never heard of something taking you from one city to the next around here. we just drive. :confused3

eta, i guess greyhounds would count, as busses between cities, but those are usually in really sketchy neighborhoods and again, i don't really know how they work, or if they're wide spread. i'm sure that in most cases you would still have to drive some part of the trip. i think they're mostly for long distance travel, like between states. not really just to the next city.

wow that's kinda crazy! we have a subway system that goes around the toronto area (not in the suburbs though) and we have this thing called GO transit where you can take a train or bus pretty much anywhere in the area and it's really easy to take the city bus pretty much anywhere too.

i really wish we had it. but a few weeks ago, president obama was on television in florida talking about how there are plans to build a high speed train that goes from one city in florida to tampa (I can't remember where it starts, but maybe orlando?) and i think it would be really cool if we could get those all over america.

that's pretty much what the go trains are takes about an hour and a half-is to get from the farthest points to toronto (which would be like at least a 2-3 hours drive)

it's cheap too! you can get a day pass depending on where you're coming from/going to, usually only costs $12 for me.
i'm so glad we have that, it makes it much easier for me to get to/from downtown. the greater toronto area is probably different from your area though, we have a LOT of cities that comprise the area and it's pretty much necessary for us to travel from city to city on a daily basis.

I think this kind of train is probably a lot different from the kind Sian's going to be taking though if hers costs so much more.

At the moment, pretty much nothing. My birthday's on Thursday, and even then I had no idea what I wanted...

I save up my money, but it keeps disappearing... Most recent loss was over £70... I was very annoyed, until my mum told me she took it out of my savings because I paid for half of my new laptop, and it was easier than going to the bank to get the money. She told me, but I obviously forgot

The shore... are you from Jersey? ;)
born there, raised in pa.

is that above ground, or a subway?

and where i live, it is kinda necessary for a lot of people to go to nashville on a daily basis. the bus system in nashville is a lot better than the one we have here though. it stops at bus stops, and not just appear at random locations. haha. i would love if i could just get on a subway and go to nashville though, that would be wonderful.

I am so surprised by that too. In Boston we have the subways (to locals its the train or the "T" If you call it the subway we know you're not from around here haha.) Almost every area has public access to Boston. Even people from Rhode Island have the bus systems, boats, and commuter rails. I can't imagine not having the train system, it's the easiest way to go into the city.

A tablet, and possibly Paint Tool SAI.

A VOCALOID. Many, actually. Too bad the last time I checked they cost $157 each. >.<

A new laptop.

All very expensive stuff. I've got a looooong way to go. XD

that's above ground, it's a train route. there's also the subway which is underground but that's not run by GO.

sorry for hijacking the thread everyone

I'm saving for my trip to Germany this summer :) :)

and 5k registration fees (They eat up my paycheck!)! :)

i'm saving for my wdw trip in september

I'm saving for a car, college, and WDW. I haven't cracked a thousand yet, which is sad considering I've been saving for as long as I can remember. :P

As for less expensive things, I'm saving for a new pair of Pumas and a spring-pattern Vera Bradley.
