So, a huge problem that I'm only really facing now is studying.
When I was younger, I never needed to study, because I was always ahead of the class. And I never had the need to study until last year, my sophomore year of high school.

Since I never really learned good study habits, I lose focus really quickly and can't seem to keep my attention on the task at hand.
And I have my AP US midterm tomorrow, and I really need to review the material, but I can't seem to keep focused.

So does anyone have any good tips for studying?

I, like you, never had to study. I was always top of the class through elementary and middle school. I guess I'm still the same way, but now I study things because it's better for me to do it. I have some memory problems from chemo, so if I don't keep things relatively fresh, I forget them.

Anyway, each person is different. If I have noise in the background, I can't concentrate. If I shut myself up in my room with a snack, a drink, and my iPod I'm fine. Food and music are big no nos, but they work for me. Try to find something that works for you.

I need music to study. I can't without it, I get too distracted. Music blocks everything else out.

I read my notes over, make sure I have flash cards if I need them (I very, very rarely do), and just generally look over things I'm not sure of.

I'm from the same situation. I never needed to study all through elementary and jr high school. once I hit 9th grade, I needed to study a bit more, but I still don't really need to do it. I have an almost eidetic memory. It's more with words than images, but it's the same principle. If I write something down I remember it pretty much permanently. More so if I read it again. Words, numbers, equations. I never really need to study because it's usually just still in my head. On occasion, though, I go over things to make sure.

Thanks, guys. I actually found a site that has practice quizzes for all of the chapters in my text book that I needed to review, and that's helping a lot.

It really depends on the subject for me.
For history (which I haven't had in almost a year), I make study guides.

Only study for 20 minutes at a time, take a 5 minute break, then continue studying.

I'm exactly like Sonya. If the tv is on or someone is talking to me I cant concentrate, but I'm okay with music. And a drink and food also helps me.

I never needed to study at all in elementary or middle school, and because of how my textbooks are designed, I dont need to study now either.

Yeah, I definitely have to have music playing. It helps block everything out, without it I get easily distracted.

Another thing that helps me is, I have a photographic memory. If I can look at something long enough and study it, it'll help me during a quiz.

That's the same with me. I have a really visual memory.
Like, I can think back to other tests or reviews and see the questions again. But I have to concentrate when I first look at it to be able to recall it clearly later.

I never used to need to study because like you, I was always ahead of my class. But since I started college I really I just HAVE to study. I'm still trying to figure out good ways for me.

For Sociology exams, she'll give us a huge list of words that may or may not be on the test. I basically just write (type) down everything I know about each word, print it out, & read it over and over again.

I also have to have a snack, drink and some kind of noise (music or the TV - boring channel.)

For my other classes (mainly Civilizations) I haven't found a great way to study. It's hard for me to absorb information that isn't particularly interesting for me. So I just pay extra close attention to his lectures and review my notes a lot.

I don't have to study for algebra or writing, those things I just kind of 'get' naturally.
