We are trying to decide where to send my parents for their 40th wedding anniversary. They love Disney, Epcot is their favorite, but MK is a close second.

Can anyone give feedback on the studios at WDW? Room size, general decor, general resort experience, anything else important for a couple about age 60?

We've stayed at OKW, VWL, and BCV (as well as all the value and mod resorts)...but never in a studio. Thanks for your input.

I think a studio would be a terrific idea. With the exception of OKW which will have two queen size beds, the DVC resort studios will have a queen size bed and pullout sofa bed so if it is just the two of them they can take advantage of the couch area and not have to use it as an open up bed. Each villa will have a balcony, a sitting area with table and two chairs, an efficiency kitchen (mini frig, micro, toaster, and coffee pot) with sink, and tub/shower in the bathroom and an additional sink/vanity across from the efficiency kitchen. Depending on which park you'd like to be near, each resort has its own unique theming and for me VWL is my favorite :love:but not to worry - I haven't met a DVC resort I didn't like.

The new BLT studios are slightly smaller than the rest. And (an issue for some) the bathroom sink is in the same area as the kitchenette.

For me, not that big of a deal, but you may want to look at the set up to see if it is something that may or may not bother your parents.

I think that the Epcot resorts might be a nice idea since they would have a lot of options as far as dinner, etc--more than at BLT and MK.

I was going to say the exact opposite. I'd go with OKW because they wouldn't have to share a single queen sized bed (I know if I have to share a queen sized bed with my husband, neither of us are going to sleep much). And I hate pulling the sleeper sofa out and putting it back away every day.

A studio would be okay, but a one bedroom for your parents would be so much nicer.

See, this is one of the things I'm stuck with. They do like their king sized bed (so do we!) but that darn bus ride that winds it's bumpy way all through the resort at OKW - maybe we were just tired with tired little kids, but it always seemed soooo very long before our stop. OKW, rooms are lovely, maybe a little larger, too, and many pretty views and quiet, they'd like that. Fewer points, I like that. But the location at the BWV or BCV is just so prime.

Picking a resort for someone else is a lot tougher than I thought it would be!

We are about your parents age and love staying in studios. We have no need of a kitchen or laundry so a one bedroom would be a waste of space if we are traveling alone. We will be staying at OKW next week for the first time. The atmosphere in the pictures looks perfect for us. (when you live in upstate New York it's nice to stay in a resort with palm trees!) We stayed in SSR in DEcember and loved it. We also have upcoming reservations for AKL in August and WLV in October. BCV and BWV also look very nice. The only resort that I'm not too enthusiastic about is BLT (too much concrete for me). I guess your choice will depend on your parents' tastes but I don't think that you can go wrong.

Silverqueen, I think you are correct on every account. Without the grandkids, I don't think they'd ever pick BLT. Palm trees ARE good when you're from way up north.

Tonight we are leaning toward BWV. We'll see if I get anywhere on the phone tomorrow morning.

(Now I have to remember what time to start calling!)

Don't make this harder than it needs to be. What size bed do they sleep on now? Get them the same size bed.

Do they enjoy eating? Pick a resort that has easy access to food.

Older folks aren't in a rush to get anywhere, we sometimes enjoy longer bus and boat rides.

Don't be surprised if they spend most of their time at the resort, that's what we do. Who wants to fight the crowds at the parks every day? That's not a vacation!

I would send them to BWV with a BWview and mention to the CM they are having their 40 wedding anniversity.
Then get them a dinner ressie at Flying Fish or any of the more fancy restaruants around the lake, including S/D:goodvibes

Okay, so I called MS this morning and was able to get them 6 nights at AKV in a studio. I requested a Savannah View and told them about their anniversary, which she was excited to note for me.

Nothing else was open for that few points. I can't break the bank or we'll be shortchanged when we go in January or on our cruise next year. (Maybe someone should convince us once and for all that paying cash for the cruise is better...but I digress.)

I think I can guess what a wait listing is, but I'm going to ask anyway. How does that work?

I really think they'd love BWV. Am I just out of luck shooting for a 9 point night at BWV? F and W is over, looks like Jersey Week is over...looking at checking in Nov. 14 or 15.

I could take my chances on December, too. What do you think about that? Or are we just out of luck no matter what because we can't book at 11 months at BWV?
