Hi there,

DH and I are trying to plan how we are going to use our points for the next two years.

For now it is the two of us, hopefully one day we'll have little ones to take with us.

Advantages of one bedroom
-King Bed
-Kitchen
-whirlpool tub

Advantages of studio
-less points and we could go two to three times per year vs one time per year with the one bedroom.

-since we do not have a family, the kitchen is not a big deal to us. The microwave, small fridge would work just fine.

Also I hear that the laundary machines are complimentary for DVC members. We would not mind going out of the room to do laundary.

Any thoughts? Get more trips out of the studio or be way pampered in the one bedroom?

:D

I think you have considered the pros and cons of one bed vs. studio. My preference would be to take more trips. The one bedroon is nice; however, if you don't need most the amenties I vote to take more trips.

The studios are very comfortable for two people and why not take the opportunity to visit more often. Anyway not bad options. Enjoy your trips!!

Depending on how many points you have, we do both. Our June trip is in a Studio. We know the weather will usually be nice, and we'll spend most of our time outside the room. Our December trip is in a 1 Bedroom. The weather can turn cold and drizzly, it is nice to have the laundry facilities and extra room if we have a bad weather day.

I think the in-room laundry is a BIG plus to the 1 bedroom. If you don't want to spend the extra points, don't EVER stay in a 1 bedroom, because once you do....You will NEVER go back to a studio!:p We are totally spoiled! We tried staying in a studio for just the two of us about a year after joining, and we have not been back to a studio since! It is SO much more of a vacation in a 1 bedroom!

I do both occassionally - most studios - I like the extra trips!!!

Do you have an annual pass? then the only other extra expense is traveling and food.

It can get expense traveling to WDW more often - but I think the benefits out weight the negativies.

A 1BR for a couple is indeed a luxurious way to vacation. We bought into DVC because we wanted to upgrade from the hotel rooms at the resorts, as nice as they were.

For us (and we have two daughters), a 1BR is a minimum size to give us the feel of a vacation home.

But I could certainly see a couple using only a studio and being quite happy with that. It is certainly plenty big enough and has the small fridge and microwave...which are nice amenities.

You can't go wrong either way. The main question is, why did you buy into DVC? I think the answer to that will answer your question here.

If it were me, I'd stick with the Studios until you start a family and NEED the 1B. If you try a 1B now, you will never go back!!!

The first time we stayed at the BWV, we had a studio and thought we were in heaven! Was more than happy to vacation in a studio and could not understand the allure of a 1bedroom. Then for our 20th anniversary last year, we splurged on a week in a 1bedroom. Well, now I am spoiled. I can't go back!

I so fell in love with the extra space. I love the tub (watched tv in the tub just last week!), the laundry in the room is fantastic. We bring just 3 days worth of clothes and just throw a load in. We also go home with clean clothes at the end of the trip.

We had some very cold nights last week and the extra space was welcome. It will be real hard going back to a studio!! Be warned, once you try the extra space, you can get spoiled extra quick!!!:earsgirl:

Like you, there's just 2 of us (at the "other end" of life-our kids are grown), and you left out what for us is the biggest plus of the 1 BR-2 TVs! In the evening, DH has to watch sports. I don't feel I'm at WDW unless I watch the resort channels over and over. I even watch the "Zip a dee doo dah-Tip for the day" over and over in Spanish. And early in the morning whoever gets up first usually gets the morning coffee and turns on the Weather Channel-in a separate room. We used to stay in studios, but like some others once we had a 1 BR, and now we can't go back!

Have to agree.....I would stay in a studio first. We stayed in a 1BR twice before we stayed in the studio (we were trying to conserve points)...hated it....never staying in a studio again unles I am ABSOLUTELY trying to fit in an extra trip...All I kept saying was "the 1BR had this" and "I wish the studio has this like the 1BR". After the first night in the studio, I went down to the front desk to see if there were any 1BR's left - not a single one available. (it was Marathon Weekend) so we "suffered" thru the rest of our trip :-). Had to eat of off paper plates since the studio's don't have "real" dishes.....
I've learned my lesson and would definitely splurge on the 1BR, it just feels like "Home"

I agree with the others that said to try a studio first. Once we tried a 1 bedroom, my DH said no more studios! (and he was the one who didn't want to spend the extra points on the one bedroom:p )

What we do now is book the first two nights (a friday and saturday) in a studio and then 5 nights in a one bedroom. This way we can conserve points on the weekends and still stay in a one bedroom for the majority of the time. We have done this twice so far and it has been wonderful.

I won't get a studio if I'm going with my DH. He's a compulsive channel flipper/remote hog! Can't stand to be in the same room when he's doing that. Thanks goodness for the one bedrooms - they have two TVs and two rooms. I'd much rather spend tme in a Master bedroom than a studio bathroom. :teeth:

P.S. Studios work out just fine when I go with a friend, LOL!

If you get used to the 1 bedroom as a couple, watch out 'cause once the kids come along you'll be wanting the 2 bedroom!

I don't think this is a perk for DVC as any one staying at BWI or BWV can use the laundry machines. But if your in a 1 bedroom only you can use it:crazy:

We use the studios and 1 bedrooms. For just the wife and I we extend our trip for 3 more nts using a studio. We rather have 9 nts /studio vs 6 nts 1 bedroom.

We're combo users also. For shorter trips (sun - thurs) we good in a studio. We've done this twice. For longer trips, 7 or 8 nights we do the one bedroom. Do this partly to save points and take more trips! Although after staying in a 1 bdrm, DH wanted to know where the w/d were!! And he does love the jacuzzi!

Variety in almost all things is one of the things that makes DVC work for us!

Our first trip was a studio at BWV in May 1999, for just DH and I(I was pregnant with our first at the time), it was wonderful, we loved it!
Next trip was when my daughter was 3 months. Because of point shortage and going Monday to Monday we started with a 1 bedroom and moved to a studio for the last 3 nights--not fun after being in the 1 bedroom. LOL
We now get a 1 bedroom always with the four of us, unless we come in a day early(Fri instead of Sat), then we take a studio for that first night and move over to a 1 bdrm for the next 8 nights or so.
My mom and I took a trip, just the 2 of us in Dec 2002 and we stayed in a studio, getting a 1 bedroom never crossed my mind. I see no point in it for me, there re no arguements over the TV, and the tub is great but wouldn't detract from my vacation if I didn't have it.
I felt perfectly pampered and on vacation with the BCV studio, plenty spacious for 1 or 2 people.
