Having a tough time deciding between a studio or 1 bdrm for our upcoming trip. There will only be 3 of us (me, my husband and our little one will be 18 months).

So do we go for a 1 bdrm for 7 days or a studio for 10 days??

If it makes a difference, we're hoping on staying at BLT or VWL for the convenience to MK.

I'm a huge fan of one bedrooms because you have the full kitchen and you have the washer / dryer (packing less clothes!). Plus, you can nap the baby in one room and still have room to move about in the other.

It depends on what's more important to you. More room and W/D in the unit, or more time at WDW? Three in a studio should be easy with an infant; it's the W/D issue I'd consider more important.

It definitely depends on your preferences...while we love the convenience of the 1 BR, we oftentimes will do the studio if it's just the 3 of us. My daughter was almost 2.5 years old when we stayed in a studio with her, and it was easy! She naps well and it didn't bother her if the TV was on while she slept for naps or even nighttime sleep. So we were able to still watch TV and stuff while she slept. And we tend to overpack anyway, so we barely ever have needed the washer and dryer lol. I love the room in the 1 BR, but the studios fit us just fine! :) We like to save the points so we stay in studios if its just the 3 of us!

I don't see how anyone travels to WDW without doing laundry because the humidity and heat and rain often force you to change clothes more frequently than expected.

It also depends on where you will be staying on choosing a studio or 1 BR. Because in my experience it's not difficult to do laundry at BLT while staying in a studio. But when we were staying at OKW the laundry was near the pool which was quite a distance down the street and it was raining.

using the washers and dryers in blt are easy when you're at the pool. It's a much slower paced trip with an 18 month old, so I'd do smaller room, longer trip! And yes, we have stayed at BLT with a toddler.

I'm not a big fan of studios, but with the cost of airfare these days, maximizing the number of days I can stay at WDW has become more important. With your little one, you should be fine in a studio. Th BLT studios are small, so if you are planning on having your kiddo sleep in a pack n' play, it will be tight.

You could always compromise and do a split stay, starting In a studio for 3-5 days then a 1BR (w/ W/D) for 3-5 days!

I'd probably choose the studio since it will make a difference in the length of stay and go for VWL b/c it has a bigger living space than the BLT studios.

I would want to stay for 10 days, but in a 1 BR. If you don't want to borrow points, then what about staying at a moderate or value for 3 days, then moving to DVC in a 1 BR for the week? Some on this BB have done a split stay with studio 1st, then over to a 1 BR, esp. if it is their 1st trip and they weren't sure--so, maybe 4 days studio and 5 day 1 BR? That should be about the same points as 7 days in a 1BR. To me, a studio is a hotel room, a 1 BR is a VACATION! Elaine

Rule NUMBER 1 of being a DVC member:

1 BRs will spoil you forever from wanting to ever stay in a regular hotel room (A Studio is nothing more than a hotel room +, IMO.) at WDW again.

Rule NUMBER 2 of being a DVC member:

You'll need more points. See rule number 1.

Go for the 1 bedroom. This was the #1 reason for buying DVC when we had a child. The ability to let the child sleep in another room and you can do things without worry of waking the child.

We were actually kind of funny, because we didn't want to sleep in the same room as our son. So during his naps, he got the bedroom. And when he went to bed at night, he started in the bedroom. but when it was time for us to go to bed, we turned down all the lights, carried him out to the living room and took over the bedroom for the night.

Go for the 1 Bedroom, you will not regret it.

I totally agree with this. We have a 2 year old DD, we have visited twice in the last 2 years staying 14 nights each time. Both trip were splits stay between both studios and 1 beds. I can't emphasize how much easier it is in a one bedroom. The ability to make meals, do laundry and chill out with my DH, make them the choice for me. As said by a PP it is hard to go back when you have experienced the 1 bed luxury.

I would go with the studio. I always take the extra days. There is a W/D available in a common area if you need it. We do not use the full kitchen as my wife reminds me she is on vacation too and not there to cook. I think you will find an exausted child will sleep with a TV on.

I look at as it depends on what you want your future to be. The real risk you face, if you have not done a 1BR before, is that if you do go with the 1BR, you will never want to stay in a studio again. Most who stay only in studios feel just fine with them. However, once you give into the temptation of the devil and try a larger unit, you will be a forlorn soul if you ever have to go back to a studio.

That is the absolute truth!!!!:thumbsup2

If you want a more relaxing vacation go with the 1 bedroom. With an 18 month old infant you may want to stay around your room (resort) more often.

The 1 bedrooom is like a 1 bedroom apt with a kitchen, and W/D.

how much time are you staying in your room/villa?

if a lot then go with 1-bedroom - if you are only there to sleep then might go with the studio.

now I love studio and stay in them often - but have stayed in both a 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom - that say I am definitely cheap can stay in a studio for generally less than half as much as 1-bedroom. So it definitely wins for me.

if I am going alone then studios are great - if I am going with friends and one is a male - then definitely at least the 1-bedroom if not 2-bedroom. family now - different studios...:rotfl:

I love your philosophy especially with family. :rotfl2:

We just closed this week, so we have yet to use our own points on trips, but we have stayed in 2br in the past with others. Having the W/D and extra room for a sleeping child are beautiful things, but at the expense of 3 days more at Disney it's a tough sell. I'm a huge fan of staying longer so the trip is more relaxing. It's a toss up really. There are pros and cons of both. 1 br pros are more room and convienance, but shorter trip. studio gives a longer trip, but tighter living quarters.

My wife and I have planned on split stays for our future. Since we hit the parks hard when we first get there, a studio for the first 2 -3 nights is ideal. We usually hit the wall the 3rd day and want to relax, so day 3 is a resort day for us to sleep in, enjoy the pools, etc. So day 3 will probably be our "moving" day to a 1 br. Don't EVER get the 1 br first and then end the trip in a studio! You want to upgrade, not downgrade. It's one of the reason we bought 125 pts instead of 100. As a previous poster said, see rule # 2. :lmao:
