Studio supplies & AP question

Well, I feel like in our first year as DVC we will be on our way to a Grand Slam -- staying for Thanksgiving in a 2BR at SSR, January trip 1BR at our home resort VGF, and just booked a studio for a long weekend in May at AKV Kidani.

First question: I'm shipping items for our new Owners Locker on Monday, what should I add for the studio stay? Additional plastic utensils, plates, bowls?

Second question: DD9 turns 10 in April 2015. We'll be activating the DVC APs on 11/25/14. I'm guessing it's not a problem to keep using her DVC AP since it's the same price for a kids AP as it is for an adult AP? Will I need to go to Guest Services to update her AP?

TIA!!
Michele

I can chime in on additional stuff for the studio stay. In almost all the studio stays I've had, utensils and plates/bowls have been other than described. Usually something is entirely missing. Several times, I got no plates/just bowls or vice-versa, one time I got no knives-and I had to look up how to say "knife" in Spanish to ask my housekeeper for one. And I think there were always just two coffee cups (I only use studios when I'm solo, so I make due). It's a good idea to have extra of all that stuff. And even for 1 BRs, we often get shorted on creamer and sugar, so we end up…ummm, "borrowing" some from a CS place. Note-if it's liquid creamer you're "borrowing", that stuff DOES often leak so be careful between the time you "borrow" and when you get back to your villa.

We keep a cutting board and kitchen knife in the locker specifically those studio stays. Our tall coffee mugs are in that locker for visits in any unit size.

A real knife for the studio.
We have always just called housekeeping for more utensils, bowls and plates and they have always been brought within an hour.

We have some plastic disposable bowls and plates for studios stays. I don't like having cereal in a paper bowl and the plastic ones can be washed and reused and then tossed at the end of our stay. Actually, since the 1BRs no longer have cereal bowls, I have a real (non-disposable) one in the locker for stays in 1BRs as well.

:) I like having extra ziplocks for food that needs wrapping after opening. I also like my chip clips in the OL.

Good to know about no cereal bowls in the 1BR too. I'll grab some of those. Thanks!

Great suggestions. Ziplock bags are fantastic for all kinds of things. Thanks!

Another random question -- do I need to have a stash of dishwashing liquid? Or do you get a little bottle with each stay? I bought a small bottle of Palmolive but if I don't have to ship it that's one less thing (and less weight). I am shipping down a small container of dishwasher tabs & laundry items.

They do have small bowls (big enough for a bit of cut up fruit) but they are not large enough for cereal or soup. They used to have great cereal/soup bowls but when they replaced the Fiestaware dishes with generic white ones, they provided these oddly small bowls that are not suitable for cereal.

They provide dishwashing liquid. You get a small bottle and they will replenish it if you need more. They also supply dishwasher detergent in the 1BRs and up. The 1BRs also have one box of laundry detergent (enough for one load). You get one more on trash and towel day or you can buy add'l boxes in the laundry room or big bottles/boxes in the resort store.

Thanks LisaS! That helps. I was trying to look for the list on the DVC site and gave up after a while lol.

10 days until our first visit "home"! :goodvibes

All my hubby's shaving and hair stuff is in the locker...also suntan lotion, aloe, band aids etc. oh yea my slippers a couple of pairs of socks, and a swim cover up that also doubles as a bathrobe

No cereal bowls? We have 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom coming with 7 people
I guess I need to pack bowls as 5 of them ordered cereal and soup.

All you need to do is call housekeeping for any missing supplies. Other than a little shortage of TP I haven't had the same experiences though but when calling for that was reminded to always just give a call if running short on the disposable items (not shampoo etc) to get more.

And the studios have 4 glasses and 4 coffee cups.

As I said, they do have bowls but I found them to be too small for my usual portion of cereal. Worst case, your guests could use the existing bowls and eat two small portions instead of one regular sized portion.

ETA: This is from memory (never a good thing!) but I vaguely recall that on one trip (in a 1BR) I used the measuring cup to determine how much those bowls could hold. They held about 1 cup of liquid. Since I use about a cup of milk in my cereal (plus some fruit), they didn't work for me. Since we had a rental car that trip, we went shopping for a cereal bowl to keep in our Owners Locker so I can have a decent breakfast in our villa.

I remember especially noticing this in our AKV Jambo GV since we had cereal which isn't always the case. Those bowls were tiny but it was also the original unique dinner ware which I'm guessing was also replaced by the white generic. I know I'd hate to try and have a salad in any of the bowls they've had.
