How comfortable is the Murphy bed? I am considering calling my parents at 40 years old and say lets go to Disney world (I know dork I am) I am looking to maybe getting a studio and I would be on the Murphy bed. Just want to make sure it's decent and I won't be killing my back.

My parents actually prefer them since they sit lower then the normal beds so easier to get on and off haha And to my thirty-two year old back they feel pretty much the same as as the regular mattresses too, perfectly comfortable and so much better than the sofa beds.

Hmm Old Key West, Copper Creek, Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo and Kidani) and I believe Bay Lake Tower. I think all the others have been upgraded since (Boardwalk is finishing up now). All but OKW should be getting their upgrade to Murphy beds in the next year or two though!

OKW studios have two queen beds. Only the larger villas have sofa beds.

Not sure OKW can get Murphy beds though. I think the back of the sofa is towards a window.

Ah that’s right I forgot about that, I’ve only stayed in a 1bdr at OKW so that was in my mind! There’s also some debate whether or not CCV can add them either although a guide I spoke to said it’s still very likely but I guess we’ll see.

First let me say that the murphy mattress is a BIG step up from the pullout couch. But, why doesn't it surprise me that DVC skimped on the murphy bed:( They use regular mattresses in the value resorts pulldown murphy's but in the DVC's it's a much thinner mattress. And I would rather have the table and chairs, than the couch. JMO:)

Doesn't SSR have them as well?

I stay at Pop and All Stars a lot, and actually prefer the Murphy to the regular bed. When we stayed at Riviera last September, I slept on the Murphy in the studio and it was just as comfortable as the ones in the values. I did not notice a significant difference in the mattress. The only thing that bugged me was that the arms of the sofa made it more difficult to get in and out of the Murphy at Riviera vs the Murphy in the values, especially since there wasn’t as much space to walk around the bed.

We’ve used them at BRV (studio) and at the Riviera (studio and one-bedroom) and they were fine, a much-preferred alternative to a sleeper couch.

With regards to BRV - just a friendly reminder that the upper floor rooms often will still have a couch as the angled roof does not allow the new murphy. My sister-in-law and their family got a high floor and had the couches but they worked okay and just put the kids on them. They liked the murphy at Riviera much better :)

Were were in a BRV studio this past week and I actually liked the murphy better than the queen bed. The queen was way to lumpy/soft for me. My husband joked that it felt like the mattress was filled with socks. 🤣

Yes, I have heard that is true; we rarely stay in studios these days. We were in studio room # 4560 - at the very end of the hall. We stayed an extra night due to a tropical storm and lucked out getting the Murphy bed.

I've slept on the murphy at PVB and VDH and thought both were very comfortable. The mattress is thinner than the regular bed by several inches but I don't think that is a con at all; the mattress on the beds was softer and less supportive IMO.
