To be clear, my thought about cancelling was the II account, not the exchange. You must cancel any exchange within 24 hours to be whole.

Oh thank you----again....I didn't realize this either. In 14 years of owning timeshares, we have only traded one time. Is it the same time period to cancel the II membership ? I appreciate all your help Dean. I've had 22 views on my question on TUG, but you are the only one that has actually offered some sound advice and I thank you.

UPDATE :

Just got off the phone with MS.

They had availability for both GV and OV Inn rooms for all my dates. I booked the GV. I figured I really wasn't sure how much time we'd be at the resort to enjoy the view anyway. I was tempted to book the OV room though
I think we'll be spending a good portion of the days (especially 8/12, 8/13 and 8/14) on campus.

But for now.....I just wanted to book it. I can still look into the options proposed by Dean and then rework our plans. But at least I feel better now knowing I've got some place to stay nearby for the orientation.

Congrats!! That is the week that Fla. residents go back to school, maybe that has something to do with it! Enjoy VB...I'm going 8/2-8/8. Can't wait!

I'm glad I could help so me. One thing you may want to look at are some of the independent exchange companies. Not reasonable to join II, pay dues yearly and pay an exchange fee for once very few years. Do note the independents are more active and helpful in Europe, MX, CAN, HI and the west US.

I'm now on the phone looking to see if I can book 3 nights at AKV. We will be in WDW the week prior to checking in at Vero.

Vistana only sends me RCI and II info in the mail so I wasn't even aware of any others. I do read TUG boards from time and I don't think I recall reading anything about these independent companies. I don't know of a good location that lists them all other than Timesharing today which also compares them but it is a pay site. TUG has some information. Fern Modena use to keep a listing but I don't think she updates it anymore.

• HI TS exchange
• Platinum Interchange
• Dial an Exchange

These are the ones that come to mind right now. They all have their pluses and minuses. Some have pay options with more benefits. The best are likely DAE, SFX, TPI. PI allows search first without paying anything up front. Most will allow you to call and check availability without paying a fee.

Just one word of caution. DVC will not confirm the unit to them now so I don't know if that means any of these companies will decide not to accept DVC. The last time I've talked to any of them it was before this change.
