Student Loan Deferments

Just a tip that I wish I knew a few weeks ago. When you are laid off and are seeking unemployment benefits, check out to see if you can defer your student loans. I just did, and they all qualify, and the interest gets deferred too (for the type of loans I have). A win-win situation. Wish I knew previously, as I just paid on all of them and the deferments will take place next month. But at least this helps out going forward until I can find a new job.

I have been deferring my student loans for the last year now. You can do it for up to 36 months just make sure that you reapply every six months or it will expire.

Yeah I forgot about this and didn't get mine until 4 months into unemployment.

Thanks for the tip on renewing every 6 months. Hopefully I will have a job by then, but if not, I will definitely do this again.
