Stuck on Bedrest, anyone else?

Hey! I understand your loneliness of bedrest. I did 5 months hard bedrest at home before doing 2 months "in the pen" or hospital before delivery. I was actually pleased to stay out of the hospital for as long as I did.

What helped me, was watching America's Funniest Home Videos. It isn't my favorite show by a long-shot but I knew there would never be a surprise moment where some character lost a child, which would send me on a crying binge that worried dh. I always laughed at the silly crotch shots and dumb, drunk, dancing wedding-goers! I also found myself watching a lot of Law and Order and Judging Amy.

I DVR'd a bunch of old Hitchcock movies I hadn't seen. I even watched Apocolypse Now Redux-which I do not recommend!

I ordered food from delivery places nearly every day, since I wasn't grocery shopping and standing to fix a meal was a bad choice. I was trying to up my calorie count so Boo-Boo's Dawg House was actually a good choice!

I did a lot of logic problems. I couldn't do the laptop because that was too hard not sitting up. I read a few books. I esp. liked Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs and Baby Laughs. Very irreverent, frank and naughty, but the 'granny underwear' chapter was hysterical!

I asked friends to stop by and chat with me for half and hour at a time, whenever they could swing it.

It does begin to feel like there are prisoners that have more freedom than you. I would occasionally refer to my 'unfortunate incarceration!' Humor was my weapon against despair, depression, and loneliness.

Good luck finding ways to deal. And keep us updated!

I would occasionally refer to my 'unfortunate incarceration!'

We called mine "The Vacation". Dh started calling me "The Lady in Waiting".

I'd hear the phone ring and him go "Oh, the lady in waiting is doing fine, really bored with her vacation, but at least baby is staying put"

Ah, greetings from the royal chambers of her preggerness. I am laying here on my left side and every so thankful for the other "crazy" people on the Dis.

The baby is wiggling up a storm and "growing like a weed." I get to visit the doctor next week on the 17th. Whee, a ride in a car. Hopefully they will tell me that the placenta is moving up into the uterus, or at the very least I can keep on bedresting at home.

I have not had a physical therapist, but I have bed rest exercise guides. I am making sure to do everything I can to keep things healthy. Well, maybe not everything. The "What to Eat When You are Expecting" lady would have been upset with me last night.

I usually eat a nearly vegetarian diet, lots of green leafy vegs, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Yet, yesterday I really wanted BBQ Beef Ribs. What drove that desire? I have no idea, but my hubby stopped on the way home and picked me up a half a slab of ribs. I ate them like a woman deranged. I sucked every bit of flesh off of them and licked up the sauce off the plate. I ate a nice big salad of wild greens, some toasted Pumpkin seeds, and then had a small bowl of chocolate ice cream.

After it was over, I felt as if I was in some sort of fuzzy trance. A beautiful warm contentment spread over me. I think I might have gotten high off of ribs. This morning, I happily ate my small whole wheat bagel with olive oil and a grapefruit. The desire for junkfood seems to be held at bay for the moment. Yet, I wonder when I will once again be 'chasing the dragon' of ribs and chocolate.

For a Dis fix my husband and I sat up and talked about when would be the best time to head back to the "World" with the new little one. We agreed that it is easier to travel when they are on a good schedule and capable of sitting up in a high chair, but not yet walking. So, we will try to schedule a trip when the peanut is 7-11 months old.

If it is a boy, I like the middle name of Walter. Don't you think Uncle Walt would approve? My hubby, a huge Star Wars fan likes Walton better, which just happens to be George Lucas' middle name.

Someone mentioned wearing make up, and I admit that I try to put on a little something every day. Even if I just put on some mascara and lip gloss, I feel less like someone who is sick, and more like someone who is lounging.

I spent an hour last night pricing out different vacation options, vacation dates, lengths of stay, and looking at "additional offerings" such as Illumination Cruises and carriage rides.

I just need to keep my eye on the prize, a family vacation with ALL of the children at Disney. I can lay back and "see" all of us standing together in front of the castle. I am wearing peanut in a sling made of Mickey Head fabric and all of us are combinations of Red, White, and Black. The sun is shining and all of us are beaming.

Thanks for all the Dis love  .

I wish I had some suggestions, but just wanted to tell you I am thinking about you! I am almost 12 weeks (that trip ticker might as well be a pgy ticker now! Gotta change that!) so I think I am a couple of months behind you. Keep updating this thread and hopefully some of us can find some entertaining websites/activities/etc for you.

Good luck at your dr's appt!

was on bedrest w/DD from week 24 till delivery at week 36 & DS from week 20 till delivery at week 35. The worst the meds they give to stop the contractions followed by all the water you have to drink. Hmm try telling your doc yes i really would like to only move once every 3 hours but that impossible because I have to pee every ten minutes!

Have you tried sewing? They make the cutest baby blanket kits that have a stamped pic on them. Come w/ the floss to cross stitch very easy no counting just follow the pattern. I have made several for friends & are very cute as a wall hanging too. I know you can get them at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Good luck!!:lovestruc

I too was on bedrest for 6 weeks was all though. Long enough for me, but not as long as some of you guys.

It was in 2000 & we had no computer back then either. I just can't get into books, TV & trashy magazines was it. We lived in a small little house that we rented & my husband (God bless him) was working 12 hour shifts as a police officer & building our house at the time. I hardly ever saw him & eat alot of left overs, take out, or TV dinners. :rotfl:

I distintly remember trying to eat spagetti laying down because as soon as I would sit up the contractions would start. But my contractions didn't hurt, just thinned me out & dialated me. I was in the hospital 3 times, stopped w/medication & on daily medication for weeks. Then when they said it was safe for me to deliver - SHE NEVER CAME!!! I still had contractions, but nothing! They induced me (I had a growth on my Thyroid & they wanted surgery scheduled asap) & she got stuck & I ended w/an emergency C-Section.

I distintly remember (and even now I hear it) people saying how lucky I am, I don't have to work, I can lay around & watch TV all day, etc. It is no fun, I had rough elbows, knees & heels. I just simply got sore! I actually watched all the Baby shows since it was my 1st child.

My husband is still saying no to more kids because of "how much I went through". I think its just a cop out, but he says sympathy.

Anyway - Good luck & you are in my prayers.

PrincessAbby'sMom, I went on to have two more children, one recently and thankfully I had no complications after my first pregnancy. They say each pregnancy is different.:grouphug:

If you are lonely, Yahoo has a pretty extensive free game server. You can play puzzle games, board games, hidden object games, and even card games with players from all over the world. I play euchre, cribbage, blackjack, poker, bridge, and canasta with people from EVERYWHERE.

It might help you pass the time. Good luck.

Thats exactly what I said. I said each pregnancy & each child is different. She was borderline colic, so now he says - yeah this one will probably be worse & actually have colic. He finds an excuse around every corner. He wants more kids, but he can't see volunteering to be up all night again & have a craby wife because of it. (yes - his exact words). And I nursed until she was 6 months old, so what did he do???? Just keep praying for me (I pray for an "accident" every day) - I haven't been "ON" anything for years, he is just too talented (if you know what I mean!):rotfl: :rotfl:

I feel your pain! I spent the last 7 mos on bedrest with a central line (IV) because I had hyperemesis (extreme morning, noon and night sickness) with DD5. I watched all the cooking shows and the baby shows on TLC. The laptop helps definately too! Have hubby rub lotion on your elbows and heels to keep them from getting rough. My biggest thing was dragging an IV pole to the bathroom while not tripping on the cat. Keep your spirits up and your eye on the prize. You are doing great!

Dis Family,

I have some great news. The most recent ultrasound found that the placenta has moved a great deal in the correct direction. I am still on bed rest for at least another month, but my doctor is letting me sit for an hour each day now!

I will get to eat dinner with the family at the kitchen table!

The baby is doing wonderfully. Everything seems to be progressing well for the peanut and the peanut was finally not shy about showing us its "precious bits."

We are having a .......

Girl!:cloud9:

Seeing that active baby waving on the screen and hearing that the placenta is moving has really given me a second wind about doing bedrest. In addition, if the placenta moves far enough from the cervex then I will be allowed to go full term, enter labor normally, and might be able to have a natural delivery.

We were supposed to be flying down to WDW this Saturday, but that trip was cancelled due to the complications with the pregnancy and I had been feeling rather blue about missing out on "The World" but right now I am not the least bit sad about anything.

I feel like Christmas just landed in the middle of the desert in September. :santa:

That is great news...Congrats on your new lil girl! How old and what sex are your other children?

I was on modified bedrest for 4 months with my 2st DS...I have heart issues and working in the hospital on the floor as a nurse was causing it to get REALLY bad, once I was home it got much better, so I wasn;t confined to bed all day, but to the house.

Do you knit? Crochet? I know hospitals and nursing home are always looking for either wheelchair blankets (a certain width so the blanket doesn't get caught in the wheelchair wheels) or small blankies for NICU babies or small hats for them as well. When I lost my 1st son, I was able to get a hat that they put on him and keep it beause of the kindness of a stranger.
