We were just there on over the the Fourth of July week and in one day got stuck in two rides at MK. We got stuck on Winnie the Pooh first in five different sections but that wasn't bad at all, at least the ride wasn't dark and scary, or annoying, and we got a priority pass for another fantasyland ride of our choice. Later that day we got stuck on Pirates of the Carribbian, that was the worst. The kids got scared after the first five minutes and started crying, the castmembers were coming in and out but refused to leave the lights on even when they had them on when they were in there to try to fix the problem, the pirate kept talking the whole time, after someone said "does anyone have a gun to shoot that thing" they finally shut it off. We were sitting in the dark for about 45 minutes and were finally evacuted, they shut the ride down for the rest of the day. We got out the back way through the the dumpsters and not even any formal apology, that left me really angry.

Sorry it was such a bad experience. I remember getting stuck in POC where they shoot the gun into the water. I thought it would never end.

Did you have a lot of storms to cause this or just my kind of bad luck?

Sandy

That stinks... sorry

AFTER 45 MINUTES BEING STUCK IN THERE, YOU WOULD OF THOUGHT THEY WOULD OF DONE SOMETHING FOR YOU. THAT'S AN AWFULLY LONG TIME. A DELAY THAT LONG COULD OF MESSED UP ANY PRIORITY SEATING ARRANGEMENTS YOU MADE TOO. SORRY YOU HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT.

On July 19 MGM early entry day, the Rock and Roller Coaster was down at opening to at least 1 pm when we left!! I was bummed!

Disney policy seems quite inconsistent on this issue. I know that when DH and DS got stuck on Dinosaur last year for about 10 minutes, DS was over the moon, since they were evacuated along the track with all the lights on (very cool, apparently) and were given fastpasses to come back at any point during the day. Forty-five minutes on a ride with frightened children is a LONG time.

I can't belive they wouldn't do anything. I would have gone directly to the service desk and demanded something. That's disgusting!

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience! My only hold-up was being next in line for Test Track when it had difficulties (I hear this is a frequent thing) and we waited about 25 minutes.

My friend was on stuck on Splash for over an hour. She and her daughter missed fireworks and parade and the CM's would not let them out!! No sorry, no nothing...sounds like your experience. They REALLY need to get their act together and create some sort of strict policy for this sort of thing...LET THE PEOPLE OUT if at all possible and offer a consolation prize such as a priority pass or SOMETHING!! Even the mouse has room for improvement!

It was a sunny day, no storms, no clouds, actually really hot. But being stuck in that ride wasn't the only bad part of our day. I have a four year daughter whose only wish is to meet Sleeping Beauty get her autograph and get a picture with her. I asked a castmember and they called the hotline for me, found out she was going to be in front of the town hall at 11:50. We headed out there at 11:30 she was already there so we got in line but a few families in front of us she and her prince went in for a break but they told us she would be back in 20 minutes so we waited, my husband and I in the sun, it was about mid 90's already. 25 minutes later a castmember came back and told us that Sleeping Beauty won't be coming back she had to tend to an emergency, if we hurried to the first aid center we might be able to catch her, of course she was already gone. Later on I asked another cast member they said she wasn't coming out anymore, total lie, I saw her later, I caught up to her and her castmember but her castmember wouldn't let us near her so I explained our situation, of course my daughter was in tears by then. The castmember took our autograph book and got her an autograph and said wait by the Snow Whites ride at 5:50 and she'd be out again. Guess what she never came back. We were at Magic Kingdom for two days the first day was great however this is what our day was like on our final day at Disney World. Don't get me wrong we'll be back we all had a blast but I was a little dissappointed.

The last time I was there we got stuck on Splash and Thunder Rail Road in the same day. Luckily neither wait were too long.

Personally I think if any ride breaks down for more than 15 minutes the guests should be given alittle something extra. Just along the lines of one priority pass to any ride of their choice for that day. I mean I have read stories recently of people being stuck on a broke down ride for 30-60 minutes (or better). That really eats a little chunk out of a well planned day.

This is really getting me nervous. I would, all joking aside, have a nervous breakdown if I was stuck on a ride for 45 minutes. I am perhaps the most clausterphobic person on Earth... just thinking about it makes my chest hurt and I can barely breath.

I am going to Disney for the 1st time in Sept. so I have no idea if you mean you were actually stuck in a small space or stuck in an open area. Lord, that would be the end of me.

This weekend for the first time in 28 years I rode the subway. It was horrifying... after one stop I had to get off. I was so scared my legs broke out in hives and I thought I was having a heart attack. My husband literally had to help me walk up to ground level I was so weak with fear. The mere thought of being underground in such a small space almost sent me over the edge.

Yes, I sound totally neurotic and I promise this is my only "weird" thing...

Now I am a wreck. Somebody please clarify by what "stuck" means.

Thanks.

I agree that they should do something, but being stuck on a ride for 30-60 mins is not suprising. First the cm's have to figure out if its something they can fix, probably call a couple people before maintainence is sent out, and then they have to make sure that they can safely remove everyone. It would be way bad for the maintainence guy to do something while a cm was evacuating a ride and have someone hurt because a ride lurched forward.
I would take this time if its dark to take flash photos (blinding everyone around you) or leading everyone in a nice round of 'yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me' even if not on POTC :)

Pug Lover, the majority of these cases, if not all, are in open areas. Your car is stuck but you can freely move your body around, there's lots of open space around you, etc. The only exception would probably be a ride like ToT where the space is naturally enclosed, but I wouldn't recommend that ride to anyone who is claustrophobic even if it never broke down. Rest assured you'll be fine. Remember, the rides run smoothly way more often than they break down. I have been stuck on some rides, like Spaceship Earth, where it's dark. If you think that you might become a bit apprehensive about that situation, I would suggest buying a keychain flashlight that you could attach to a belt loop, back pack, etc.

Well...Indoor rides are usually open "boat" or "car" track rides. If the ride were to be stalled you would be in an open room with blaring music repeating over and over and over. You would have to stay in your vehicle of course, but all are open on sides and roof - does that help at all? Outdoor rides are...well...outdoors! Lots of fresh air !!

Once I left teen-hood, I sort of developed this fear of "what if the ride breaks down..." and I have a hard time with it. I like rides that stay close to the ground, and there are lots of those at Disney!!

Good luck, and let yourself relax and have fun....this may be a "scary" post, but put it in perspective. How many negative posts are there around here? Not many. Have FUN!

I felt really bad when I read this.. :( If riding on the subway caused such a reaction, I'm afraid you might have some problems with the "contained" (inside) rides.. Please take this in the spirit it is given.. You might want to see your doctor before you go and explain the situation.. Perhaps he could give you some mild medication that would help alleviate your claustrophia when you're on the rides.. I'm sure there must be some sort of medication for that and I would REALLY hate to see your trip to Disney ruined.. :(

When don't you check with your doctor and see if he would be willing to do this for you? Hope it all works out and you have a GREAT time!!

Thank you everybody for clarifying what you meant by "stuck".

I know I sound quite insane but I assure you that I am not :)

As long as I am not trapped in a small space (i.e. a ride that has a car that is enclosed all the way around) I am usually okay. It is that "walls closing in on my feeling" that really is unbearable to me.

The subway was perhaps the most terrifying experience of my life and I know that sounds nuts to most people. I knew I was underground (i.e. no way out, all enclosed) and it was jam packed with people. Fear turns into menal picutes and suddenly I started thinking... gee, all of NYC could crush us to death, what if the car gets stuck.. what if we run out of air.

It's not rational and I usually consider myself a fairly intelligent and rational individual... clausterphobia is a very difficult thing and really hard to understand if you dont suffer from it.

Four years ago, on my honeymoon, my husband and I were at this ecological sanctuary in the jungle of Mexico. One of the most beautiful places you could ever imagine. We were all set to snorkle.. once I got the mask on I almost had a heart attack. The feeling of having something "sealed" over my nose and mouth gave me a panic attack like I never could imagine. I ended up just watching my husband snorkle from the dock.

It makes me feel stupid and incredibly bad but there is not a whole lot left I can do. I have been hypnotized twice with no luck. Since my clausterphobia is not a constant medicinal therapy is not all that viable as an "as needed" basis.

For some reason being in a plane does not bother me, I guess I dont feel constrained (I can walk around if I like and things of that nature).

Thanks for the information, I appricate it!

That was a stroke of bad luck, getting stuck on 2 rides!

I remember many, many years ago getting stuck on the People Mover at DL for I don't know how long. Eventually a cast member wearing a tie came along and let us out of our car and pointed to a door along one of the walls of the building and told us to go through that door. And then he continued to the next tram to let those people out. We went through the door, which lead us down a flight of stairs to another door. No one was there to tell us different so we went through that door and found ourselves standing outside an unmarked door in Tomorrowland. No cast member was waiting there to apologise or offer some sort of compensation. No cast member was there to make sure everyone was all right, especially considering that the People Mover was on an elevated track. I was kinda surprised at Disney's lack of concern. Nice to see that some things don't change.
