Stuck in Disney - How Would This Work?

I was reading a couple posts on the DVC board about people who got stuck in Disney due to weather and were able to extend their reservation, or make alternate arrangements, while there. I am going next week for a few days with my 3 kids. We are DVC members but are staying at ASMo this trip. I got to thinking - what happens if our flight home gets cancelled due to weather? We are staying on an AP rate. Can we call (and who) to get our reservation extended? Would we still get the AP rate? We have the 40% discount because we are staying more than 4 nights. If we only had to add one or two nights would we still be eligible for the 40% off? Just wondering :) By the way, next week at this time we will be on our way to the airport, barring any weather problems next week like we are getting ready for today. Yeah!

I would think you could go down to the desk and talk to them about extending the trip. It seems like if you called the central reservations line while you were there, you'd be booking a second reservation, rather than extending the current trip. :confused3

Hmmmm, this might be a call you place to a CM before you leave, just to get an idea of what they would tell you to try and do.

I'm curious to see what others have to say about this, as I've wondered myself about what would happen if I decided I need to stay longer than I had planned. Never because of weather, so much as I just don't want to come home! :rotfl:

Going down to the front desk makes a lot of sense. I hadn't even thought of that.
My kids are already missing school Monday and Tuesday so I really hope we don't get stuck - just thinking ahead of a what if? scenario.
I never want to come home either, but I figure with the weather being the reason, my
husband can't say much about it if we HAD to stay, rather than we just WANT to stay :)

We were stuck during a March snowstorm. We live in NJ. We just went to the front desk when they announced that Newark airport will be closed. We were on an AP rate, and they just extended the rate for 2 add'l days.
I ran out of cash, and wanted to cash a check, I handed the CM the check and he didn't give me any cash back. I said, where is my cash?
Oh no , you have to use the ATM to get cash, I just applied your check against your resort balance. Panic set in, because 10 years ago I didn't use an ATM. I had one card with me with a pin, so I got my cash. Now ATM's are everywhere.

Thanks shoes99. I would hope it would be as easy as going to the desk and getting the AP rate extended. :)

We were stuck there this past week. We were supposed to fly out to Dulles on Saturday, but flight got pushed back until Tuesday (yesterday) and then cancelled again lol. Anyway, I went to the front desk but was told by them if I extended my trip thru the front desk they could only give me rack rates. They advised me to call the reservation line and make another reservation. We got the 40% off our stay for the next 3 nights. Worked out much cheaper for us that way.

This happened to us a few years ago, problem was, the resort was fully booked and we could not get a room to extend our stay,ANYWHERE that was disney owned was booked, we had to end up booking rooms(no discount) at Swan and Dolphin for an extra 3 days, that extra 3 days cost more than our regular trip at French Quarter..

We were at the Polynesian last June when there was a very bad storm back home and all the flights were cancelled. I had already checked out before I knew the flights were cancelled and when I went to the Poly to extend they said I had to call CRO as they had no rooms (not even the suites- I asked).
I called CRO and they said not one single room in all of WDW!
We ended up going on ME to the airport and taking a hotel shuttle for a hotel close by to stay the night until we could get out. It was a pain but it worked out.

Wow. I guess I was really lucky in December. I after four days at CBR I asked at the front desk if I could extend by one day and they applied my pin code rate.

we were delayed at disneyworld for hurricane francis... when we knew our flight was cancelled and we were able to rebook our flight, i simply went to the front desk and told them we needed to stay three extra days, and they were very accommodating... they even gave us a better rate than what we were paying (a sorta hurricane special rate apparently) for the two rooms for the additional nights... we did not have to switch rooms or anything... they really made it easy! :)

Just happened to us last week I had to extend our trip twice, the first time I went to the front desk.

The first time was easy and I got the AP rate and same room, I later found out a lot of guests had to switch rooms.

The second time I was at EPCOT when I found out I needed another night, so I went to customer service and they said I could use their phone to call Pop Century, they were no help at all and said they were sold out.

I had to call the reservation number and they said there was room at PC so he booked it for me with the AP rate and said I needed to go to the front desk to see if I can stay in the same room.

When I got back from the park I got to stay in the same room. I could of had to change rooms twice or even worse change locations.

Thanks to everyone for all the information :)
Hopefully we will get down and back with no problems.
Good luck to all travelling this coming vacation week.

Just remember that if you can't LEAVE Disney because of a storm back home, there's probably someone back home who can't get TO Disney! Maybe you can have their room!
