Visit Centennial Park.

CNN has a tour and the longest escalator in the world or something like that. There used to be an amusement park in their building. They have a gift shop.

Riding the subway could be interesting if you're not used to that.

I think you mean Centennial Park? Very likely they already did though, since they've been all around it with CNN, World of Coke and Georgia Aquarium.

Carter Center (Actually pretty interesting and your kids can go in the Oval Office) They work hard at making in 'interactive' for kids. Not far from downtown

Have you done Legoland? My 12 and under kids love it.

It is suppose to warm up a quite a bit tomorrow and Friday. The Botanical Gardens are nice and ST. Mountain could be fun as well.

The Tellus Science Museum is about 45-60 min drive outside of downtown in Cartersville, GA.

I don't know where you are staying, but there are several indoor water parks in Gwinnett County that are very inexpensive - Bethesda Park Aquatic Center
225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville 30044

Callaway Gardens in a little over an hour South of Atlanta. Very close to Callaway, is Wild Animal Safari (rent a bus and and feed Giraffes, Zebras, etc out of your hand). Also, nearby is the Little White House.

In Conyers, Yellow River Game Ranch is nice.

Good. Most of my ideas for day trips have already been mentioned (Stone Mountain, Helen, Chattanooga/Lookout Mountain).

They have their own aquarium, which is awesome. Ruby Falls/lookout mountain, Imax theater, children's discovery museum, coolidge park has a nice carousel, and the bluff art district has lots of outdoor art along the river.

Don't forget Rock City and the Incline.

Callaway Gardens and the Wild Animal Safari are located in Pine Mountain and very easy to get too.

Both are great places to visit.

The Little White House is located in Warm Springs and not far from Pine Mountain. Very interesting to visit and you will learn a lot about FDR's stay there.

Atlanta History Center in Buckhead has a civil war museum, history of Alanta museum, a plantation farmhouse, and an antebellum southern mansion.

If you want amazing pizza- try Antico's. It's near Georgia Tech.

Mall of Georgia in Buford if you want to shop.

Andretti Motor Speedway in Roswell is an indoor video game and go cart place. A lot of kids like it.

Amicalola Falls is a very pretty waterfall and state park about 2 hrs north of Atl.

Chattanooga would be a fun day trip. Someone mentioned all the places already but Ruby Falls, the Incline and Rock City are all totally fun! Love the aquarium but since you just went in ATL I would skip. We love walking around by it though and eat at Cheeburger Cheeburger! Love their fries, shakes and hamburgers!

I live in ATL and I think everything has been covered!

Helen GA is a nice walking area in the mountains...outlets in Dawsonville...Stone Mountain is fun too.

We go to Helen every June and love it, but they may have been getting some wintry weather.

Dahlonega was another thought. Lots of interesting towns within a couple of hours.

Thank you everyone for your many many suggestions! I knew I could count on my fellow DISers!

Talked to the kids and we explored nearly every idea that you each mentioned. We thought they were all interesting and had some great things for each of them (DS wanted to check out the Andretti place, DD was a no. DD wanted to go to the American Girl store, but the boys, not so much! ) We voted and decided to check out Stone Mtn, the botanical gardens and grab something to eat at the Varsity because that looks fun. May hit the Carter Center too if we have time because that looks neat.

If you change your mind, the AG store and Andretti are very close to each other. Probably 10 min away from one another, so it would be doable to do both in a day.
