Is this the best time to buy dollars for a visit in July 07?? Anyone got any inside info about whether the rate is going to drop or possibly increase? I was told it would peak at 2 dollars, but it appears to have dropped to 1.85 in the last few days, so I don't know whether to buy now or wait to see if it goes back up. I'm confused!!

If we knew that we'd all be millionaires, seriously, if you can afford a few now, get them now, if its going to strain you financially over xmas/new year then put it off. I always reckon an anything above 1.80 being a good rate, it has dropped down to 1.30 in the past which is still better than a £=$ rate.
Financially speaking the high street are apparently going to state record losses after xmas, that will have a knock-on on our interest rates etc so if that's likely to affect you, get them now.

I agree with Carol, if the rate is over 1.80 then it's pretty good :)

No one really knows what exchange rates are going to do, and if they do then they are certainly very rich and unlikely to share their secrets ;)

We are going end of november 2007 and are buying a thousand pounds worth now probabley from travelex 1.90 :)

I just got another £1000 worth today at $1.94 from citibank. It's definitely a good rate at the moment!

I just paid for our rental car and specalist equipment for our son for our July 07 trip and saved over £130

The bank rate peaked at 1.98480 & is still 1.96810 at the time of posting.
Not sure if it's the $ that is weak or the £ that is strong as I'm no financial wizard lol !
The $1.85 you're quoting is probably the tourist exchange rate - shop around you can still get over $1.90 to the £ :)

I think the combined wisdom is that the $ is weak at the moment. A lot of economic data from the US lately has not been very good, albeit there was some good inflation news (I think) recently, which may account for the $ strengthening slightly if it has.

Yes definitely a very weak $ hence we can get more $ for our £ :teeth:

Claire ;)

I will be buying mine after i've paid off our holiday (which will probably be April-ish) I figure I can't predict what the dollar will do and since I can't afford to be buying currency now i'll take whatever rate I can get when I can :)
