I have just left Magic Kingdom tonight with a nice cut on the back of my leg, and bruise to match it,

I don't have a problem with children being pushed around in Strollers, what I do object to is having them pushed into the back of my legs,

The strollers that cause nasty cuts are the ones that can be hired from the parks, They are made of a very hard plastic and unlike normal strollers have hard edge much lower down which is rough.

Please when using these Strollers think of those in front of you,

I'd like to ask you if you are one of the folks who love to stop suddenly to look at a butterfly flitter about, or stops abruptly to look at your map, without regard that you are in the middle of the main pathways.

while some pushing don't pay attention, or maybe a child is helping to push it.. Many times there are tons of people who get in front of me and our stroller to try and cross paths, to try and get by quicker, or that just plan stops to look at something, instead of looking backwards a bit to make sure its safe.

After all, you don't slam on your brakes in your car in the middle of the road just to look at your map.. why should it be different in Disney with much more people packing the sidewalks.

Yes, people stop their cars in a middle of the traffic and if you do not keep a distance, you will pay for their car. Same works for strollers, there is no need to be that close to someone, and nobody should look behind when he stops. Also if a child pushes a stroller, parent should still keep a hand on it be able to stop if needed. No excuse for changing way or cutting infront of stroller, simmilar to cars, it would not be stroller fault to hit someone in this case.

I've been on both sides of this..I've done many WDW trips with single and double strollers (our own, not the rented ones) and I've been hit with a stroller sometimes too. I agree, there are some aggressive stroller pushers out there, but at the same time, many times when I've been pushing a stroller I've been cut off by someone dashing in front of us or trying to sneak by. Not much I can do about that...there are rude people at WDW--both with and without strollers, so I'm sure everyone could slow down a bit and be more aware of their surroundings.

Well if we're going to have to start following the 2 second spacing at WDW, they're going to have to start limiting the number of daily admissions significantly. ;)

Seriously though, the place is crowded. Yes, sometimes people with strollers try to put them where they won't fit, and yes, people walking in middle of a crowded walkway often stop for no good reason without being aware of what is going on around them. Both are problems and both have the same end result. Unless we want the WDW police to make and enforce a bunch of new ridiculous rules, it is something that we all just have to deal with.

OP, sorry about your leg, I had surgery to repair a ruptured achilles tendon a couple of years ago and I always cringe just getting a slight bump into the back of my leg. I understand your frustration entirely.:sad1:

Rude people at Disney?

I don't know what day you went, but I've never seen any rude people at Disney.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm sure the OP just needed to vent. We can all find plenty of ways to annoy each other in the park. One man's photo op is another man's "get out of my way idiots." ;)

I pushed DS2 around for 7 days and never hit anyone. It can be done, but I was also very careful in heavy crowds. Some are accidents. Some are simply carelessness. Maybe some people ram others for fun. :) Who knows?

OP, hope your leg gets to feeling better and that it didn't dampen your Disney magic.

You missed my point. With cars, its obvious you need to keep a distance, as driving 40mph and maintaining 2 cars lengths or 2 seconds back is different than walking 2 mph in disney with 30,000 people in a small space.

If i'm happily pushing my stroller, i try to be about 3- 5 feet behind you, which is about 1-2 stroller lengths, then you start to slow down and stop, people to the side prevent me from moving, etc... its harder to stop.

Too many times, we've all seen folks step right in front of us and stop. Or if in heavy traffic going to some part in the park, wher eits bumper to bumper walking, you again stop. and because we cannot maintain distance (again, people getting in what little space there is) you get hit.

that is my point. don't pin the blame on the stroller in every instance. there are plenty of people that don't follow walking ettiquete either.

If i'm walking, i try to move to the side of the walkway so as to avoid getting hit, and to allow the flow in the street or sidewalk to continue. If I need to stop in the middle, i look behind to make sure I'm not stopping in front of someone.

Do you do that?

These never start or end pretty.

I know, I always love these threads.

I see this one as being totally 50/50 when it comes to resposibility. And this is not directed towards the OP.

You may have been hit by a stroller once or twice, but how many times did you jump in front of somebody pushing a stroller or cut them off? How many times did someone have to alter their movements so you can get in front of them? And just because you have a stroller doesn't mean you can just push your way though a 1 foot gap with you 3 foot wide stroller. It goes both ways.

Hey, I've been hit and I have hit people with my stroller. It's an accident, sometimes it's been my fault, sometimes it's not.

I love stroller threads.

I push a stroller at WDW I was always very cautious of my surroundings. I never bumped into anyone or had a mishap with my stroller. Oh yeah this is slightly off topic but I read the stolen stroller thread . I will say I felt REALLY comfortable leaving my stroller at diffrent places throughout the parks! There were times I left bags /bottles of juice etc. all over my stroller and nothing was ever missing or moved . I also saw some ppl leave thier purses in their stroller and walk into a show . I would never do that but as always everything was there when we left the show. It felt great to let my guard down in Disney!

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

The moral of the story should be simple.

People, regardless of age, sex, skin color, stroller usage, hat preference, shoe size, political affiliation, favorite color, education level, profession and eyesight should be aware of the people around them and do their best to be courteous. It doesn't have to be just in the parks, it's okay to act like this in every day life too.

I dont like those big SUV strollers that have the kid, a cooler, backpacks, enough groceries for a week in the pocket part, the fridge, the stove and everything else the parent crams in it.:lmao: Those really hurt when they hit your legs and ankles. :scared1:

I never understand those big strollers...why not just a simple small stroller to put the kid in? LOL

I think you kinda answered your own questions when you said

The larger the storage area in a stroller, the less you have to carry. When you have a kid in a stroller, it often requires you to take quite a few items with you that people without kids don't have to take.

Also, jogging strollers are VERY maneuverable and are quite large.

I'd never rent a stroller from the parks in Disney myself, but I can understand why others might.

We have 3 strollers... our normal single Graco... a Combi umbrella and our sit n stand.

If we go somehwere with both, we take the SnS, unless its a theme park then we do a Combi/Graco combo for flexibility in where we want to go.

With a DD5 and a DS1, we need enough water, juice, snacks, meals for not only them, but the parents too. I'm not payin $2 for a drink or an overpriced meal. We keep them in the storage, or attached to the back of the strollers.

you may want to spend your money on food and drinks, I don't. Now there ARE some that take too much.

When its me and my daughter, I bring 2 bags usually. one for the bulk of the snacks and drinks, the other for spare drinks. in the heat, we will easily go through 10 drink bottles, sandwhiches, and such.

In the winter, I can skimp out as the heat won't affect us.

Even at 2 mph, stroller is sharp and can hurt someone, imagine not even adult but a little kid's feet. Nobody blames strollers for every sitution as I pointed earlier but keeping distance is important. Lets not forget that we are talking about a park where people walk, nobody said they should keep moving no matter what and nobody looks behind before stops, you do not do it while drive( talking about emergency stops, not a pull over), and you do not do it while walk. And I go during very busy times, I never saw a wall of people (except leaving park) when you must keep moving. There is always plenty of space. Even when you exit a park, you should be careful and be able to stop, you move extremely slow and should predict that people stop much more then during regular time. I agree that people without strollers should watch out when they change direction but in other situations you should watch out, lets not forget that you are the one with a sharp stroller.
