Strollers - rent or bring?

My youngest is just 18 mo so we'll definitely need a stroller. I'm trying to decide if we should bring our Chicco Cortina stroller from home or just rent one there?

Our stroller reclines (good for naps), has a basket (good for carrying stuff, though I know we shouldn't leave anything unattended) and most importantly is tall enough for my very tall husband to push comfortably. But it's obviously bigger than an umbrella stroller, so might not be as maneuverable.

Anyone know if the rental strollers are worth it? Are the handles tall enough for tall parents (6'5"), and do they recline for napping?

I'm a big bring fan ($15 a day is steep to rent a stroller). I haven't rented one, but I've seen a bunch of them. They're bulky jogging strollers. They don't look like they could recline. I also say bring yours from home for sure!. Your baby will be more familiar with it and might do better in it. But the most important part about not renting one is you'll have your stroller to go to and from your hotel and not have to carry your little one or all your stuff. Especially if baby has fallen asleep. Each night at the hotel, I "pack" our stroller for what we'll need the next day and get everything all organized and put it by the door. Makes for a fast departure to the parks in the morning. And it's also great for the airport, etc.

As far as I remember, they don't recline, but they are very manuverable (like jogging strollers), and I think the handles are about standard height.

Definitely bring your own stroller. Carrying a baby at the end of the day can be pretty tiring.
If I'm correct, I don't think you can take rented strollers into DTD.
And on busy days, there is no guarantee there will be enough strollers to rent.

We took one when we flew (sit and stand..so not tiny) and were SO GLAD we did. This time we're driving and taking a regular stroller. I don't want to pay 15 a day for a stroller for 5 days and ours is much better. The biggest problem is whose feet get to rest on it in the car The toddler's stuff takes up more room than anyone else's.

I would bring your stroller. You will likely want it in the mornings and evenings getting to/from the hotel.

As for leaving stuff in the stroller, we left everything except my purse in the stroller and nothing was touched.

The rented strollers were better than I expected them to be, but they all look the same so finding yours would be easier in a crowd of strollers.

We have the exact same stroller by Chico (Umbrella stroller) I'm guessing. We went around the same age as your little one and we did bring our stroller your describing. It was perfect IMO small enough to maneuver around slow walking people and held all our items. I think it's the perfect way to go, bring yours!

I'm also a big fan of BYO. Your DD is familiar with it and comfortable, you all are familiar with how it works and storage capacity. If you are concerned about theft, you can get a bike lock and lock the front two wheels together (so a CM can still move if necessary but no one else can run off with it).

I am part of the "bring your own" crowd.
We had tons of souvenier stuff , change of clothes, snacks, etc. in our stroller whith no problems.

Just a clarification to a previous post - you actually are not allowed to bring the rental strollers outside of the secured area - so while you can take them between parks, you can't take them out to DTD or hotels.

I think the rental strollers are great, but with an 18 month old you're going to need it all the time, and she'll probably nap in it at some point or another, so count another vote for bring your own!

There are web sites where you can get an umbrella stroller for $15 delivered to your hotel! For $15 I had it delivered!

You can take the stroller everywhere...unlike the DLR strollers which cannot go any further then the 2 parks and the courtyard, they are not allowed into DTD.

We used the stroller to take my DD on the city bus over to target etc etc etc! PRiceless! It was well worth the $15! Also, I didn't have to lug one more thing through security etc...and at the end of our 2 weeks visit we had the hotel "gift" the stroller to another family that needed one! Keep the magic right on flowing

We always bring our own stroller. I just can't see spending $75 (we always go for 5 days) for stroller rental when we have our own that my daughter loves and is used to. I also like being able to have her in it until we get on the tram if need be. If you are worried about it being taken while in the parks (this does happen) then they sell a product called Buggyguard at babies r us for around $20. It's a stroller lock, we used it last time we went to Disneyland and loved it. Very easy to use.

Also, if your husband is 6'5 and you opt for an umbrella stroller he is going to be extremely uncomfortable pushing it around. I'm 5'8 and I have a hard time pushing ours around all day. I'm pretty much hunched over all day because the handles aren't high enough.
