Hey all do you have to fold strollers up to ride the boat from the campground to the MK? Thanks!:thumbsup2

sometimes. It depends on the size of the boat. wl and fw have different size boats come and go.

We've never had to fold our strollers for the boat to the MK....always been the big ferry style boat.

On the other hand, we've always had to fold 'em up to go to the CR or WL...always been the smaller boat.

No, never, unless it is too large to get through the isle and the front area is all occupied. The smaller boats can not handle them open, but they mostly just circle the lake and the three resorts there (FW, CR, WL).

The larger boat (not the ferry) always goes to MK.

Just a note that if you want to get to MK earlier than about 15-20 mins before opening, you'll have to take the smaller boat to Contemporary and then walk over. The bigger boat starts 30 mins before park opening. The smaller boat is going much earlier than that. In that case, you will have to fold up the stroller.

We HAD to do that the morning we had an early morning ADR at CP. We also CHOSE to do it the morning we went to Epcot because we thought it'd be fun to take the monorail from Contemporary instead of the bus so that the kids had a chance to ride it.

I wanted to mention this too. If you like to be one of the first into MK, don't wait for the 1st boat to MK. It picks you up 30 min before park opening and you'll arrive about 15 min before. You'll be waiting to have your tickets taken while the whole entry area is filled with people ready to rush in.
If you're a rope drop person, take the ferry to Contemporary and walk to the MK (it's not really that far.)
We went to MK 2 days in a row (a Tuesday and a Wednesday.) We left our campsite the same time both mornings that we went to MK. One morning we waited for the 1st MK boat and by the time we got to Belle's there was an 80 minutes wait. The next morning we took the Contemporary ferry and walked to MK and were the first in with Belle.

The large boat (not a ferry) does not go to the Contemporary, just the smaller (schooner type) boats.

Yes, if all you're concerned about is not folding up the stroller, this is true.

I was not concerned about folding the stroller, it was the OP.
I was just pointing out to you that the *ferry* nor the large boat goes to the contemporary - just the smaller boats. The large boat only goes to MK.

The ferry only goes between the Ticket/Transportation Center and MK.

Hadn't thought about this. We are going in August and our little guy is a crack of dawn kind of kid (thank God Mommy and Daddy drink coffee!!) So we had planned on being at MK for Rope Drop. Is the monorail running from the Contemporary that early? Or is walking our only option?

Thanks!

You could make it to rope drop taking the monorail from Contemporary, but you'd be making stops at the other two hotels, making it fairly time consuming.

The best thing is to take the smaller boat to Contemporary, then it's only a nice 5min. walk to MK. We've done that many times, and it's quite enjoyable.

We just catch the first boat directly from FW to the MK.

That's true, and we do that sometimes. But if you really want to get to MK early (and less hassle), the smaller boats run earlier. Think the direct boat to MK doesn't start running until 1/2 hour before park opening.

There's such a large number of people during busy times that are waiting for bag check that once you're through it, it's hard to get close for rope drop. The ferry, boats, monorail are all emptying out hoards of people at one time and we didn't really enjoy that very much.

But, you do have the two options.

Is it faster to take a bus early in the morning from Fort Wilderness to Magic Kingdom instead of a boat, to arrive before rope drop?

There are no buses from Ft Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom only boats. The only way to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom is to take one to another park first, then transfer from there to a Magic Kingdom bus.

No.

There is no direct FW to MK bus. You have to go the Wilderness Lodge and take a bus from there.

had to that once when boats were down due to storms. tkae bus to Wilderness Lodge then wait for other bus to MK. watched the MK bus pull out as we pulled up. was not a fast trip.

Agree. We had 2 double strollers (one tandem and one side by side) and did not have to fold them on the ferry style boat. We did have to fold them for the smaller boats to CR and WL.
