Stroller weight requirments

Stroller weight requirments Does anyone know the weight and height req on the strollers you can rent at the 4 parks, I have a very big 5 yrs old step son who is 47 1/2 inchs tall and weighs 61 pounds.....Hes not over weight just a very stocky kid.....He has a lot of energy but I know by the end of the day he might be tired of walking....He does not use a stroller at home ever...Would he fit in a single or a double....Our plans are not to rent one unless he needs it....We will be taking breaks thru out the day etc due to my husband being sick ( trying to get him to rent a scooter for him self ( another story).... but for my stepson I would like to know if this is a option for him....This will be his first time there....

At five, they are still young and get tired very easily. When my daughter was young and just a little to big for a stroller, we rented an kids wheelchair to push her around in, no, we did not abuse the rules and try to get to the front of the line, we just parked it with the other strollers. It worked great, she wasn't squished and we were happy because she wasn't cranky!

I think that a single will work just fine. I have sat in one, just to see if I fit. It was a little tight, but I'm a lot bigger than your DSS. (61", 105#) If you have tons of stuff to lug, you may opt for the double, but I bet that a single would meet your needs. DD8 rode in a stroller at five and some of the time at six. We hustle through the parks and often it was faster not to have her walking. Sometimes she would just poop out and need the break. Enjoy!

How about taking a mid-day swimming break so no one gets tired? That's what we have done since our son was 4.

If you are taking it slow anyway your son should be fine. My very tiny 5 yr old did fine without one and we did not go slow went from opening to closing at easter. (with older teens) If you can walk it they can to! If he doesn't use one at home and really what 5 yr old does, don't even offer and he won't ask he'll just assume the are for toddlers like at home.

DGS also 5 and a BIG kid does tire very easily at home so a stroller is a definate. We had heard the rentals were hard, hot and not easy to push is this true . I'd not heard about a kids wheelchair before How much are they to rent. Final ?? How hard is to push anything at AK?

Child size wheelchairs are few and far between at WDW and the strollers are large enough to hold up to a small 12 year old, so a stroller is a much better choice.

Most lines are accesible and wheelchair users wait in line with everyone else.

For the OP, if your family is planning on taking lots of breaks anyway, your 5 yr old may not need a stroller and it would be one less thing to worry about. When my DDs were little, the youngest one had a wheelchair because she is disabled. We told he older sister (who was 4 at our first trip) that we could not push her too and that she needed to walk. We stopped for a rest when she got tired and seldom had any problems.
Two years ago we went with my nice and her not quite 4 year old. The little gilr did very well walking around with us for the first 3 or 4 days; we are not 'Turbo Tourers' but are not that slow either. At the end of the last day, she said her legs were "all out of walk" and wanted a stroller. Her mom and my DH went to Target and bought an inexpensive umbrella stroller. The next few days, she was happy riding, but we noticed how much extra work a stroller is - at each attraction you have to find the stroller parking area, park it and then retrieve it (sometimes it took a while to find where CMs had moved it) after the ride. I think if we had not done so many days in a row, she might have been able to do the trip without a stroller.

Children's wheelchairs are very rare to no-existant at WDW. Please save them for the children who have disabilities and are not able to sit in strollers.

The rental strollers at WDW are made of a firm plastic (like Little Tikes). Adults say they look hard and hot, but all the kids I've seen in them look pretty comfy to me. They have large wheels and appear to be easy to push. (People have psoted in the past that they are easy to push).

AK has rough surfaced (themed as dirt roads) paths so they are a little bumpier than the other parks. The park itself has fairly narrow pathways that can get congested, so it's not easy to manouver.

There are pics of the strollers at each park and some basic info. I cannot find anywhere the height/weight limit. I have seen many bigger kids fitting in those strollers.

No matter how many breaks you take it still is alot of walking for most adults, let alone a little kid. Plan on having to rent one. I think a single would be fine but if you want him to have extra room and room for your stuff then get the double. I wouldn't rent a wheelchair. JMHO

Absolutely agree with the above poster about the strollers being extra work! But, it's worth it for those tired little ones. The parks are huge, especially Epcot and it's alot of walking and most of the time very hot too. I would take the inconvienence of the stroller over a tired, cranky kid!LOL

AK is our least favorite park to begin with. Then add in those roads that are so bumpy and uneven. We always bring our own strollers and we have such a hard time in AK getting around. Alot of hills too.

But I was still womdering how much they cost also the doubles, We are leaning towards bringing a stroller as DGS will fade before his older sisters and a comfy stroller would mean he could sleep as he does at home in parks He doesn't need a lot of sleep at once so being able to sleep while his sisters continued to ride would be the very best way to go. Then he may well make the night showws. At least that's what we're hoping if not some or all of us will call it a day and head back to resort .Maybe for a late swim. We just don't want to do the back to the hotel in the middle of the day.

Adult wheelchairs are the same price as strollers. Child size wheelchairs are rare enough that I would say for all intents and purposes that they don't exist. If there are any, they would be the same price as other wheelchairs.

The prices for single and double strollers are:
Single or infant (newborn to 9 months) strollers: $10/day (no deposit) OR $8/day Length of Stay rental
Double strollers: $18/day (no deposit) OR $16/day Length of Stay rental
For our last 3 trips, we used double strollers for our kids (DD8 and DD6 now). My DD8 is bigger than most 8 years old. She is very tall and weighs 75 pounds. The double strollers at MK, Epcot, AK were quite large; however, the ones from MGM was like 2 single strollers attached together. Not very comfortable for my kids. All strollers are very strong too. As mentioned by others, these parks are huge; my kids get tired very quickly (usually after 2 to 3 hours).

Thans you so much for your comments, I am gonna rent a double just to be on the safe side...I would try to get a umbrella stroller where i live but most of them are max weight at 45 pounds and dont think that would work....and any that i see that do hold 70 pound are like 300 dollars so renting is for me .

I don't know if this will help...but I went when I was 5 years old (I was pretty small) and I managed to walk all day with the occasional piggyback ride. If you son needs a break, take a break. Go back to the room during the hottest part of the day and take a nap. I wouldn't offer him a stroller unless he was exhausted(sp?) Good luck! (Also, you aren't able to see as much in the Disney strollers.....its a better experience of the parks when walking )

My DS5 is also a bid kid, and when we were planning our trip last year I was trying to find the weight requirements for the rental strollers as well. I can't find it anywhere now, but I remember someone posted that weight limit was around 75 lbs. Last year we rented a double because our kids were 4.5 and 2.5 at the time. When we go back in December we will rent a double again, the kids will be 5.5 and 3.5, and they can take turns being in it, or ride together. If you are planning on renting the stroller I suggest you rent a length of stay, because you get a discount. And if there are days when you end up not needing it, you can get a refund for the unused days. I think your DSS would fit in the single, but he might be more comfortable in the double. I think once you see the strollers in person, you'll be able to make that decision.

We just did the parks (it was a marathon) with a 6,4,3 year old...Originally we thought about renting the stroller...but the older two dont normally have one...they know little bro rides and are OK with that....After three days they did get tired but never once asked for a stroller....

The OP is planning on going in September/October when park hours are short, so a mid-day break might not be a great option.

If you rent one in one park, save the receipt because they'll give you one in the next park on the same day. Just because you get one for a while doesn't mean you're stuck with it all day; you can always turn it in and then get it again later if you need it.
