Stroller Theft

The real question is, a $400 stroller??? I would not take a $400 stroller to WDW anyway.

I am sorry that happened to your friend though. We are looking forward to going to T-Rex on our trip.

I would think that they would have a designated (roped off?) area for strollers with a cm standing by.
But why? That would imply that the business IS responsible for personal property stolen from its premises.

I find everyone curious about why they took such an expensive stroller astounding. Their stroller, their buisness.

That being said. While Disney or the restaruant are not responsible for the theft, I am surprised that the couple were treated so poorly when they reported it missing to CM's/staff. The other threads I've read on here regarding lost/stolen strollers within the parks were positive in regards to how the guests were treated. It makes no sense that an area owned by/operated by Disney with no admission fee would be any different than a theme park in regards to how to move forward with reporting a stroller missing.

If I were the couple, I'd be on the phone talking to whomever I could to see why I was treated the way I was treated.

I never said WATCH the strollers, I believe I said "standing by!" I have been several places (not at WDW--haven't ever been with a stroller and it has been over 13 years) that resturants have a designated area for strollers (even if it is outside the resturant). Thought that Disney would have something like that in place. I also realize that a CM wouldn't know if a person is taking a stroller that doesn't belong to them, but they could look for suspecious behavior and talk to the person as they left. Sorry if I was SOOO off base!

In most stores/restuarants and yes even disney, they are completly covered by video survalience. I work in a secure courthouse and we have the ability to review tapes and have caught people stealing purses and even smuggling in weapons. Why was that not an option or even offered to them? It is not had to do. I do it all of the time.

You can buy an inexpensive cable lock to secure one wheel of your stroller. This will keep your stroller from disappearing. I've had trouble with Disney Rental Strollers disappearing but never lost a personal one. We did think we had lost one once but a couple can back while we were searching and had mistakenly take ours in place of their own. They were almost identical except the diaper bag and Diet Coke's in the cup holder.

If the wheel of your stroller isn't the kind with spokes, drill a hole for the cable to pass through. It only takes a second to lock it and only a second to unlock it. Of course, I could leave my stroller unsecured and put one of the extra tags that came with my Brickhouse Child Locator on it. That would make it really easy to find.

I agree. My daughter has a pretty expencive stroller, and she doesn't plan on going out to pick up a cheap one for the trip. She's bringing what she has.
It certainly isn't their fault that someone stole the stroller.

1) WDW employees are not supposed to show sympathy.
2) It can be taken as an apology or sign of guilt, and make WDW liable.
3) WDW is not responsible for any theft within the parks or on the property.
4) You need to file a police/sheriff report and turn it into your insurance.
5) Disney does nothing to search or retrieve items (unless in Lost & Found).
6) You leave the stroller at your own risk.

NOTE: Some people try to put a lock on the stroller. If one wheel locks, it would be OK. If the stroller cannot be moved, WDW will cut off the lock, as they move strollers to make the parking area more tidy and less of a hazard for others.

Well I think people are expecting a *Disney* customer service response for the loss of the stroller at DTD, when actually a more fair comparison would be if you were at your local mall and left your stroller unattended. As stated above, once the theft occurs it would be about contacting security and the police vs. the business owners, IMO. Although many customers assume the stollers won't be stollen, the majority of the strollers left are the more inexpensvie "vacation" type strollers. When we brought our mid-range priced stroller to DTD, we folded it up and brought it in when we dined. I don't know if theft is common at DTD, I just know that I want to watch myself from being an easy vacationer target among the masses of a hurting economy.

I bring my Phil & Ted stroller. Because I love it, it's great for 2 kids, and why have it if you're not going to use it. BUT I bring a bicycle chain/lock to lock it up when it's going to be unsupervised. If there's nothing to lock it to then I just lock the wheels together. I imagine it would be quite noticeable if somebody tried to walk away with it then!

1-2)Oh, Please!!! No sympathy because it COULD be taken for a sign of guilt...I doubt it would have been a cm to take it.

6)So that means there is the option of bringing the stroller into the resturant with you!?! Sorry, but I truly believe that if a resturant (especially one catering to families) won't allow you to bring in a stroller then they should provide a secure area in which to leave the stroller!!! That is just how I feel.

While I agree that it would be impossible for a CM to keep track of what stroller belongs to what guest, it would be very simple for them to set up a stroller parking area, fenced in, with a CM or two at the entrance, and have tags for the strollers, with matching tags for the owners. Someone drops off a stroller, they tag it, and give the matching tag to the owner. Owner returns with tag, they find the stroller with the matching tag, and return the stroller, the tags are available to use for the next guest. No tag, no stroller, no theft.

No offense to OP, BUT finally someone is making sense!!! Even if is was just a fenced in area with a cm standing there. It could deter a theft...granted if someone wants to steal something bad enough it will happen no matter who is watching. Thank you for you suggestion:thumbsup2

I agree. I think its outrageous that its being implied that its the parents' fault that it was stolen. They weren't allowed to bring it inside so the restaurant could at least make sure that it was safe outside! This honestly makes me rethink my idea of going there and I really wanted to. Now knowing that WDW might cut off a lock if I put it on...won't offer sympathy etc. Its not the same as at a mall because where would you HAVE to leave your stroller sitting out somewhere? The only place I can think of is in the kids' play area here and you can still keep an eye on it. At a restaurant you can't.

Why does it matter if they had a $400 stroller? It was a double stroller for one, and in case no one knows- those are not cheap. I spent almost $200 on my carseat/stroller combo and if I still had it I would be bringing it with me and you bet I would be pissed off if someone stole it and then people were basically telling me it was my fault!

WDW should have at least offered to call a police officer there so they could file a police report.

We were at our local mall recently and went to one of the 3 sit down restaurants within the mall. It was not crowded, it was right after it opened. My son was getting tired and would be napping soon. When we asked nicely if we could bring the stroller in, one of the girls standing at the podium shook her head yes, the other quickly butted in and said no, it's a fire hazard. However, a quick glance into the restaurant and I counted at least 2 strollers that had been allowed in. We pointed this out, and left to dine at another of the restaurants that happily allowed us to bring the stroller and put it in a place so as not to be a fire hazard.

I think it's all in how you ask and who you talk to when bringing strollers into the restaurant.

Also, all these stroller situations can be compared to valet parking some where. Once you hand your keys over to the valet, whose responsible if your car is stolen or damaged?

About 11 years ago my sister took her one year old to HS with my father and they came out of the Muppet Show and her stroller was gone. THey alerted lost and found but it was never turned in and WDW did nothing to reimburse her for it

I think we will be bringing a lock for the front wheels.
I never worried about this as my own children were growing up, but it's a different time. I've read more then a few post about strollers being stolen while planning this trip. We will have a single and double for our grandson's on our trip next month. Better to take precautions then have theft put a damper on the trip.

Sorry to hear about the missing stroller. We had ours taken while at the Christmas Party at the MK last year. We reported it to security who told us that guests often mistakenly take strollers that they believe is theirs and then abandon the stoller somewhere in the park when they realize what they've done. The security guard took a report and gave us the number for the lost and found. We called the lost and found the next day, and our stroller was indeed found somewhere in the park.

I know it's probably been awhile, but it wouldn't hurt to call the lost and found, even if it's just to satisfy curiousity.
