I will be taking my 2 nephews to Disney August 2010. They'll be 6 and 2 at the time. I know the 2 yr old will need a stroller. But not sure about the 6 yr old. He doesn't use a stroller at home and hasn't in a long time. But it's hot in August and there's a lot of walking.

So DIS parents, would you bring/rent a stroller for a 6 yr old? Should we bring a stroller(s) or rent one? What's the price per day for single and double strollers?

From my experience, YES most 6 year olds will need a stroller, at least some of the time! My daughter even fell asleep in one at 8 a couple of times, for a short nap. There is a LOT of walking, and it's nice for them to rest. My kids always napped in the stroller until they were 4 and 6, which was the age that I switched from bringing our double stroller (Peg Perego tandem) to just one (lightweight fullsize one) that they took turns in. If I had a 2 and 6 year old, I'd bring a double. I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I too worried about this with my 5 1/2 year old. She is usually a pain about walking sometimes so i did bring a stroller with me just in case. I was really surprised with the amount of walking we did and she barely complained the whole 6 days we were there and we did tons of walking. i only brought the stroller with me once and that was at Epcot which there is alot of walking. It wore me out the one day i did bring it trying to push a stroller in the heat is rough sometimes. You can always bring it and just park it somewhere in the middle of the park. Its better to have then to not plus you can keep a small cooler & other items on it. Rental fees seemed high to me i think it was $30 for a double and close to $15 or $20 for a single

We went last year with our 2 and almost 5 yo dds and I bought a double maclaren on craigslist just for the trip. I figured for what it would cost to rent a stroller at Disney I could buy the maclaren and then I would have it when we were walking to and from the bus stops, in the airport, etc. and the maclaren is a side-by-side that folds up easily to be carried with one hand, not like the enormous tandem gracos. It was totally worth it and we'll bring it again when we go in January! I call it our "disney stroller".

I wouldn't bring it. We never brought one past 4, by 5 mine were walking without problems. Yes you walk a lot at Disney but it isn't like walking a straight 5 miles, it is walk, stop, stand, sit, walk some more, do it again. There is a lot of sitting in Disney! If kids get tired they can sit down in line or in the preshow holding areas.

It is so freeing and liberating to not deal with a stroller in the crowds & busses, that I couldn't wait till mine were out for good.

we are going again in january...our girls will be 6 and 3. I will bring the double jeep umbrella stroller that I have...I suspect that our 6 year old will walk most of the time but it will be nice for her to be able to sit when she is tired..when she is not sitting, we can use the other side of the stroller for holding our stuff.

Are you going to be the only adult? If so then I would say yes to the double stroller. It is easier to contain the kids when going from area to area if they are in the stroller. If you only have 1 in the stroller you are trying to steer that stroller through the crowd and hold onto a 6 year old that will not be paying attention to anything but the sights.
If there is more than 1 adult going you might be OK with just the single.
We have used the Disney doubles a few times (years ago when they were cheaper to rent) for my older 2. The last time they used it they were maybe 7 & 4. My 7 year old is really light weight. I would say they definately lasted longer being in the stroller.
