I am going in November with my will be 3.5 yo son. He likes to walk most places we go, but even at Busch Gardens he got tired and rode in the stroller. My question is: Do you think I should take my stroller (luxury model-don't like umbrella strollers-jmo)? or is it better to just rent one if I need it?

I'm in a quandry because I like the stroller for sticking the back pack in while we are walking and it has cup holders for the drinks, but do I want to hassle with it on the busses to and from the resort.

Thanks for any opinions and / or advice you all have.

I have a DS, also 3 1/2, who hasn't liked being in a stroller since he learned to walk. The only time he will use one is at EPCOT and sometimes MGM. We rent him one b/c it's not worth it for us to bring the whole thing with us. (He's regular stroller is packed away in our basement already) The only way we could convince him to use the rental was to tell him it was his own private spaceship. He loved using it then which was especially helpful walking through World Showcase. He was able to hope in and out when he wanted.

BTW, we never used an umbrella stroller either. My son never seemed comfortable in them at all, always looked squished in and we never had anywhere to store anything.

Id say take your own stroller. Although Im sure it might be a hassle on the buses. We always take our own car to the parks so we dont deal with the buses. But, we do have to close it up on the tram to the front. I like my own stroller because #1 its more comfortable then the plastic strollers you rent, plus my own has a big basket to throw stuff in, backpacks, hats, bags etc...

thanks!

I do like being able to stuff things in the stroller.

Well, at least I have until Nov. to decide!

We've gone twice with our kids over the last year - first trip our kids were 13, 11 & 5 - 2nd trip last December, they were turning 14, 12, and 6. Our 5 year old hadn't used a stroller for anything since she turned two, including Jr. Girl Scout hikes, etc.

The first day we were in the parks - she looked around at all the kids in the strollers, and said - "I want one of those!" We were planning a full day at Epcot - 10 am opening till Illuminations, so I told her I would rent one that day - that was the end! We ended up renting one every day! She wasn't in it full time - but we were able to throw fleeces etc. in there when she didn't use it!

She was much more comfortable sitting in the stroller while watching the parades/fireworks, etc. than sitting on the curb!
We also did quite a few late nights, and she would just fall asleep in the stroller wrapped in a fleece - of course - we would then be cursing the fact that it wasn't our own stroller, as we would head off to the monorail ramps carrying 50 lbs of dead weight!!

I would recommend that you bring your own for that reason - if your child tends to fall asleep (Mine won't go to sleep in her bed - but with lots of noise, and activity, she's out like a light - band concerts, fireworks - she'll sleep through those like nothing!)
It beats carrying her while waiting for the bus, etc.

Does yours fold easily? If so - definitely bring it!

We brought our double stroller for many years. The kids were happy to have their own stroller, napped in it, if need and we ( the parents) were happy to have someting to throw the snacks, diaper bag, ponchos, etc. We also were concerned about not having a stroller and having to carry all of the stuff in a pack back and carry a sleepy child too.

thanks for the input.

He doesn't fall asleep easily, but when he does that's it he's gone! Mine does fold up fairly easily (one hand) the only problem is it is bulky.

Last time we went in april of 2002, there were so many people to fight with on the buses that it was a pain, but I wouldn't have done it any other way. maybe in November it will be less crowded and we won't have to fight so much with it. It is nice to throw all of our junk in and then to put him when he gets tired.

thanks!!

We tried a trip last year sans stroller.... & regretted it within the first day! I think a little inconvenience each day (on the buses, etc.) is more than worth the convenience of your own stroller. I don't want to start a fight here, but in our experience, the rental strollers at the parks were kind of dirty. I wasn't thrilled about the kids touching the seats, then touching their faces, etc. I'm not wild about it in my own stroller either, but at least I know where it's been! The other thing to consider is if you park hop within a single day, you have to rent a stroller at each park you go to. I'd go with your own stroller & call it a day. Just my humble opinion!

Could not have said it better....Disneyfan2
Get the willies thinking about what creepies are on the infamous plastic Disney strollers.
Oh wait they sanitize then each night ....silly me

Oh yeah. I forgot about the "sanitizing". Imagine that! Must have had pixie dust in my eyes! ;)

hehehe I'm sure they sanatize them every night *wink wink*

Acutally, Ihadn't even considered that. Ewww!!! I don't even like shopping carts for that reason.

I think we will take it and deal with a little inconvience. We don't need to take to the parks every time we go into the parks if we are only going for dinner or something, but for the long day haul, I think it may be the best thing.

Thank you for all the opinions. I didn't want to embarass my kid by taking his stroller and then all the other 3.5 yo didn't have one. you know how kids can talk about each other! lol!

thanks,
tara

we just returned from DW with our 4 yo grand-daughter. She loved the rental strollers, because they were so easy to hop in and out of and she didn't really feel confined in them. They saved a lot of steps for her and she was only too happy to ride when she got tired.
We decided tho, (after lugging 45 lbs at the end of the day while waiting on the monorail) that next time we will take an umbrella stroller and use it when getting into and out of the parks for her. We can simply hook it on over the back of the rental stroller while we are in the park... it might be a little cumbersome, but it beats having to carry her out of the park.
Just our idea....:)
