Stroller Question

Has anyone used the clips that clip two single strollers to make them into a double stroller. I have an 11 month old ds (he's almost 1) and I am pregnant with my second ds due in May. We were thinking we would def need a double stroller. Then I started thinking it would be really cool if they made some sort of fastener to fasten two single strollers together that way they can be separated when we need them to be and together when we need them to be. Well it turns out they do make such a thing. We found it at Babies R Us. My original thought as to why that would be a good idea was for Disney, incase we needed to take one to the baby care center or we needed to split up for other reasons. We are going Oct 2010, it will be me, my dh, my mom and my step dad and our two kids. DS will be almost 3 and my other ds will be 17 months. But I also don't want to base our stroller decision entirely on a week and 1/2 long vacation a year and 1/2 from now. But I can see how it could be useful in everyday life as well.

Has anyone used them? At Disney? At home? What are you experiences with them? Thanks!

Well, I will just throw this out there. You will probably need a double stroller before your Disney trip, and one that accommodates an infant/infant carrier and that is easy for you to manage all by yourself.

You will have so many people w/you on your 2010 trip, it won't matter if you use 2 singles or 1 double.

For your everyday use, I think it would be cumbersome to clip 2 strollers together. For that to work well, the strollers need to be same/similar, so you need to make sure it is worthwhile to buy another similar stroller and that that stroller will be appropriate for an infant and worth the investment if you need a double anyway.

Also, 2 strollers clipped together would be so wide, it would really limit where you could use them easily. It also may be difficult to steer if the kids are substantially different weights, and you may hit the wheels in the middle when you walk.

I would buy a double that you enjoy pushing and isn't too wide, and that holds up to 55 lbs or higher, so it is practical to use for toddlers/preschoolers until they will no longer need a stroller. Nothing is more frustrating than having a stroller that your child has outgrown but they still need one -- especially if you will have many Disney/Zoo trips in the future.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking they would essentially make two single strollers into a double stroller, so we would have the best of both worlds, and I'd have a double to push when I was by myself, and we would be able to separate them and still have both kids in a stroller if we split up. It clips in three places. I have to buy another single if we go that way so I would b buying another Mclaren, otherwise it will be a Mclaren double. I had only seen it in the store, but I just found it online http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2396433 the reviews look like it might not be as great as I thought. Anyone have actual experience with it?

I would suggest if you are going to get a double stroller to go with a inline one not a side by side. It is just so much work to manage that super wide stroller. I can barely fit the regulsr one sometimes when we go to our home theme park (Busch Gardens, Williamsburg) not to mention a trip to the mall. We have a 6, 3 and 2 and purchased a deluxe sit and stand. It has two full seats and can hold a baby seat but then converts to a stand or sit bench in the back when your older child gets tired of riding. We can actually use both seats and our 6 can ride on the stand part. It has been a lifesaver. For Disney this year we are going to use 2 singles, GP's are coming with us. For home use I definitely suggest the regular in line double.

Cannot resist the stroller question... I own the Maclaren double and used it for WDW last year for my DS 3.5 and DD 20months at the time. We LOVED it. Although I used it often for trips from parking ramp to daycare in downtown Minneapolis where I work, I have often said the stroller was worth the price just for the WDW trip. And I am sure to bring it again in 2010 when the kids are 5 and 3 and we return (fingers crossed).

I feel that this is one of the best doubles as it balances (does not pull to one side) the kids weight well and is sturdy, stylish, and has great storage/features w/out going overboard on all the cheap plastic of other strollers. While heavier to carry, pushing it is easy and we all took turns with it at WDW. If I were you I would buy this one and as we did, depending on the outing, choose when the elder child would walk (definitely not for the WDW trip) and use your single. Our peg prego single still gets use as does our double depending on where we go. And I will say that one is harder to manuever with my older child at 35 lbs - maybe becuz it's plastic? not sure why.

I did not have (m)any problems in WDW with it's side by side width except a few aisles in the emporium shops. We utilized stroller parking while in lines and comforatbly left our diaper bag inside and carried the more valuable stuff with us. It's ez to turn and can turn with a small radius unlike back to backs. Going through doors it fits just fine, but one does need to not have bags hanging from the handles as they will definitely get caught and you will be stuck (learned the hard way after a productive trip to the mall of america).

It is all your preference but if you like the Mac single my guess is the Mac double will not disappoint. And I have to say I have never heard of stroller clips and am a bit skeptical unless Maclaren sells/recommends them.
