The last time I went to Disney with my sis and her family, my brother in law was adamant that there was no need for a stroller. The youngest at the time was 6yrs old. Well, I decided to put some extra money aside for a stroller, just in case. My b-i-l is 6'3, and I don't think he realized that for every step he was taking his youngest was having to take 2. We ended up renting a double stroller for Epcot, and it made everyone much happier.
Many people who are anti-stroller seem to think that only fat or lazy kids need to be in a stroller over a certain age. Not true! Just think of how tired you are after a day spent walking all over, and think about walking double the number of steps. I would be exhausted! I would much rather see a child safe and happy in a stroller than tired and miserable walking around.
OP--I wouldn't go out and buy a stroller just to have one at Disney. You may not need one every day. Plus it is kind of a hassle if you are using Disney busses to get around. You have to fold up the stroller to get it on the bus and then try not to wack anyone with it. And someone might be stuck trying to hang on to the stroller and stand on the bus at the same time. We have found it much more convenient to rent one at the parks as we need it.
Don't let anyone here tell you that only special needs kids need strollers over a certain age. That is simply not the case. Even healthy kids sometimes need a break with all of that walking!
