I've never flown with children. Can I take our stroller with us and have it checked at the gate right before we board the plane? And when we arrive, will I be able to get my stroller back before we leave the gate? Thanks for any help.

Yes, you can absolutely gate-check that stroller. If you have a jetway, just leave it in the jetway just before you board the plane, there should be someone there to collect it.

If you are boarding from the tarmac, there should be someone there collecting gate-checked bags and strollers.

Echoing the above poster, you can do this.

I'll add that some airlines might require a small amount of paperwork to be filled out at the gate when you do this. I can't remember what was asked on it, but it wasn't a lot of info. Probably just name and address in case the stroller got separated from the flight somehow.

yeah, just ask the desk agent for a gate check tag (like the luggage id tags) and you should be okay. We do it all the time. You may want to put it in a stroller bag too because they get pretty dirty during storage.

We gate checked ours on US last year and it was there waiting for us when we got off. Part of it was disassembled though (probably for storage reasons) and it was right in the doorway of the gate so we ended up blocking people getting off the plane.

We gate checked our grandson's stroller in Dec 2004. We flew on AirTran and did have to stand to the side for a few minutes upon arrival until it was brought up to the jetway.

Just a comment...We arrived in Orlando in the middle of a thunderstorm. Nothing is unloaded from the plane during the storm. Including gate-checked strollers and wheelchairs. We waited almost an hour to get my son's stroller. It was an awful wait with a squirmy wiggly 1yo. I don't say this to discourage gate check just as a note. We were stunned to find no stroller and nothing was explained to us until over 30 minutes of waiting.
This was our only problem ever with gate check and 10+ flights with little ones.

Have a great trip.
