Stroller necessary in AK

This is our second trip to Disney but first to Animal Kingdom. We have 5 and 7 year old boys that are never in a stroller any more, but we still own a double and plan to take it. I was planning to use it at Magic Kingdom just due to vastness, they will probably just sit in it when we travel from one land to the next, but walk around within a land. I wasn’t going to take it to Hollywood Studios because it is less spread out and I think they can handle it. Having never been to Animal Kingdom, I’m having trouble gauging if we will need it there. Is it comparable in size to HS or larger/more spread out. Thanks!

Larger and more spread out. last year was ds8 first year without a stroller and he was having trouble. We do almost 2 parks everyday though so it just depends on your touring plan.

AK is larger and more spread out than DHS. Also there is a long walk between attractions.

It is very large and spread out and the attractions are a lot further apart. If you plan to do any of the animal trails, those can really add on the steps too.

I second a stroller! I have twins who were 6 on our last visit and never use one at home. They did great the first 2 days walking everywhere. We park hopped and had pool breaks in the afternoon. By the 3rd day they were asking how far of a walk things were. We ended up renting them a stroller for our remaining days and they were so much happier and stopped asking how long the walk would be or if they could go back to the hotel.

I would rethink the stroller if you are doing firework show/s with the crowds at end leaving. even holding hands have had people push thru separating us in the crowd and hard to get back together. and at AK I would plan on using it

I'd do a stroller at AK for sure.

If you're goin to do a stroller anywhere in Disney, I'd do it at AK. Its the biggest of the parks.

Have you been to the Studios now that Toy Story Land and Star Wars have both opened? The park is much larger than it used to be, and if either of those things interest you, you may even rethink a stroller for there.

Ak is larger. The only park I probably wouldn't take it to would be DHS, just because it's by far the smallest....however with the 5 year old and depending on the time of year and pace you plan to go I'd probably still take it to DHS. We generally go in warmer months and never go at the pace of our youngest person so we opt to generally take the stroller through 6/7. - For retrospect my kids don't use a stroller at home (except for long walks) past 2/3...Disney is different.

My mother is annoyed that I am planning to take my stroller for our younger daughter who will be 4.5 years old this summer. I told her I am taking it. I've explained that the parks at WDW are much larger than Disneyland and DCA, but she isn't grasping the scale. I said it doesn't hurt to bring it, if we don't need it we can leave it in the car. I am sure we will need it, and think that little sister may have to allow big brother a chance to sit in it from time to time even though he's 7. The 10 year old is out of luck though! LOL

assuming you are going for more than one day, ask mom if she would want to take your daughter to Disneyland 2 or 3 days in a row without the stroller. I know I wouldn't want without a stroller even at Disneyland for more than one day at a time

Also, at Animal Kingdom there are the walking trails that you may want to check out (which just adds to the overall travel distance throughout the day). You can bring a stroller through them. My daughter was 6 the last time we brought a stroller to Disney and I didn't regret it for a second.
