Ok, last year we rented our stroller at Disney, which I am ok with, however we were only there for 2 days. We will be there for 6 days this trip and at $13 a day that gets to be rather expensive. Our son is 6 1/2 and is 48" tall and around 50lbs. Any recommendations on a stroller? I don't have a problem with spending more that what it would cost me to rent one, lets face it, the rentals are hard plastic and not to comfortable. Plus I figure if I buy one, I can always resell it to recoup some of my money. I have seen several that have limits on weight up to 50lbs and a few that went to 70lbs. However most of them only state they are good for up to 40" These are Jogging strollers by the way. If you ave a good idea and possibly a good place to buy from I would really appreciate it.

I sooo understand still using one, the get tired so quickly, plus it is somewhere to stick all your "stuff". I think I would stick with the Disney rentables, though. The ones that only go to 50 lbs probably wont be too comfortable for him and even the ones that go to 70 lbs and are the jogging type, probably will not be comfortable after any length of time. Imagine him sitting in it and how it kind of "wraps" around their bottom and thighs, kind of "cupping" him. And with him being taller he will have to keep his knees really bent to keep them on the footrest. The Disney ones are really easy to push heavier loads anyways. They pivot really well.

I know this might sound weird, but this is what I did with our DD when she was that age and she got tired mid-afternoon. I would go toward the rental area and if someone was returning their stroller, I would ask them if I paid them 1/2 of what the rental for the day was, if I could have it since they were leaving.

We didn't need it all day but she got tired so I asked and no one ever said no and most of the time they just gave it to me without me paying. I always offerred though.

We have a Joovy Groove....and it fit our 5 1/2 year old, 48 pounder last year. But we ended up just letting her wear her harness and walk with us for the most part. Every once in a while she's really get tired and so we'd switch her out with her younger brother (who took most of the time in the stroller) and let him wear the harness. It worked well and was easy to carry/fold up and had plenty of basket space too.

yeah I was concerned with the "cupping" as well.... I found these Tike Tech Trax360's for $150 and they say they are up to 70lbs I found them at toys r us

I'm going to move this over to the Families Board. I think that you'll get some great suggestions there for the type stroller you're looking for.

We went last summer when my son's were 7 and 3. The 3 yo spent a lot of time in our regular stroller that we took from home. In a way it is a bother to have to park a stroller before you can get in line but it is nice to have a place for all your stuff. We went to the fireworks show one night and one of the CM's asked me if I wanted to take one of the disney strollers back to the exit. I said sure and put my 7yo in it. It was like pushing a feather. I could not believe the difference between pushing my probably 27 or so pound ds in our stroller and pushing my probably 50 or so pound son in the disney one. I can see why people love the disney strollers even though they are expensive to rent. I don't have any suggestions for you, I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I am not sure what we will do next year when we go. I really don't expect my younger son to go all day without wanting to rest in a stroller but then I guess we could just take more breaks too. As I said it is nice to have a place to put our stuff when we go on a ride but also takes longer to have to park it.

We used a Maclaren Volo for our DD on our last trip in September. She turned 6 while we were there and she was 48 lbs and 48 inches. She still fits in it comfortably now. You can get one on Ebay for about $75 and then you could turn around and sell it after your trip if you didn't need it anymore.

We're not sure what to do our next trip either re the stroller issue. My oldest just turned 8 but has special needs (Down syndrome). He is 44 inches tall and 40 pounds so petite for his age. We took the sit n stand the last two trips but it is getty pretty heavy with both boys in it. Our youngest will definitely need a stroller more, but I think oldest will get tired too. We will probably end up renting one for him I guess. He definitely doesn't need one away from the parks though so there's no point in bringing two strollers with us. Decisions decisions. :)

I would second going somewhere and "testing" the Maclaren. They go to 55 lbs., which is pretty good. For anyone with bigger kids who have stamina issues; orlandostrollerrentals rents a special needs stroller as well; still cheaper and way more comfortable than disneys. Plus, the Disney strollers (doubles) are new and quite a bit smaller than the old ones, just so ya know.l

Thanks for that information! I will check that place out! DH doesn't think he needs one and said he would carry him piggy back when we are going all of the way across the parks. I am thinking that wouldn't last very long. :sad2:

I took my (regular) stroller down for DS 3- put they both got sick while down there & I could understand that DD 7 was EXHAUSTED!! So we got a "free" dble @ MNSSHP & then for HS & we got one for Epcot---she didn't use it all day but really felt much better getting it for her! (and would do it again this yr!) DH wants to get a scooter for him!(he's so lazy!!)

Mac Volo. We bought one years ago for our then 6 1/2 yr old. Cheaper than renting and we used it for 2 Disney trips for her. I still have it to save for our "bonus baby" when she gets older. Right now she uses the Mac Quest since it reclines. The Macs hold up to 55 pounds. Even with our DD in the volo at 7 years old, we didnt even notice her in it. Pushes like a dream and turns on a dime!! Macs are great and have great resale!

We also have a Macleran Volvo. My DS6 does not normally us it any more but I am bringing it to Disney in May. I am sure it will get lots of use. Even if I park it for most of the day and use it later I think it will be worth it. Don't forget the disney strollers can't leave the park and it can be a long way to buses and back to your room. I think he still fits in it pretty comfortably 48 lbs about 46 inches. I would bring go try one at the store and then see where you can buy it cheapest. Like someone said then you can resell it later.

My son is 6, and wouldn't think of going in a stroller, but his past boxing day, we rented one of the MK strollers, and it was good! He was tired that day, and we were staying out later.

I think it depends on the child, my 10 year old niece would still ride in a wagon if she could!
