Stroller for a 5yo

Sounds like a good idea as long as no one takes off with it. Have you tried that before?

Strollers have been stolen at Disney before. However, we have never had an issue. We've had several Disney trips and let a friend borrow our stroller for her trips a few times as well. We are careful to always park in the stroller parking area. The chance of there being a CM there is greater. (But, the CM doesn't know which stroller is yours so someone could potentially still come and take it). We go with a stroller that I'm not attached to. That way, there's less stress if something should happen to it. Do make sure your stroller is marked in some way that it's obvious that it's yours. Strollers are mixed up more often than they're stolen. Just tying a scarf to it will help it not get confused with someone else's.

We are taking our first trip in November and my youngest will be 5 at the time. I plan on bringing our light weight, more deluxe umbrella stroller. She run and plays outside a lot, but when she decides she's done, she's done, and she's notorious for having leg pains in the night after to much activity that day. I figure it can hold our cooler and other items so we don't have carry everything or her at the end of the days, and if our 7 yr old needs a rest too, she can ride too.

We brought one until right after our younger son turned 6 (he only used it then to go to and from the parks from BLT). The stroller has always been a lifesaver for us - we walk more than average at WDW. Our kids stopped taking naps at age 2, but on our 2011 trip (when my younger son was 5) he took a nap everyday in the stroller. Disneyland this past summer, he was 6 and did fine without one.

Id rather have a stroller and not use it, than not have one and have a cranky, tired kid

My 6 and 4 year olds will have a stroller next month! It also works great for airports, I dont have to keep pulling their hands to make them walk faster and we are all in a much better mood :)

I just got back from a stay at the yacht club with a 3 year old and an infant. A few thoughts:

1) the offsite stroller rental companies are great. They deliver the strollers to bell services, the city mini is very convenient in the parks, and the price is much more reasonable than the disney strollers. We used apple stroller and had a great experience.

2) the walk to Epcot and MGM is long for a kid. A 5 year old could probably do it but may not walk as fast as you would like in the morning and may ask to be carried on the way back. We avoid the boats as we find they are slow.

3) For Mk, it is a pain to bring the stroller on the bus and it needs to stay parked the whole time you are in fantasy land. Most of the time the stroller was pretty useless in Mk but it was nice to have it for the parades. Unfortunately, I found way too many people thought that it was ok to create a walkway next to my daughter when she was sitting on the curb. I just am not comfortable with people stepping over (and accidentally kicking) my daughter.

4) Depending on your strategy...Ak is a lot of walking. We go to Everest then to the safari then dinoland. This seemed to minimize wait times and allowed us to save our fast passes for later in the day at another park. Downside is that it is a lot of walking and you might need to slow down your pace if you don't have a stroller.

5) The stroller is great for carrying stuff. When my 3 year old walked we would put the backpack in her seat.

6) I feel safer when my kids are in the stroller. When my 3 year old got more than 5 feet away it could be tough to see her and I would panic.

I know many people don't like seeing the older kids in strollers....and we saw some really old kids in strollers. But 5 is still fairly young and it really depends on what your family plans to do. When my daughter is 5, I expect she will still be in a stroller.

I agree with all of this :)

Our next trip in Dec my daughter will be almost 6 and my son 2.5 we will def rent a two seater. I know she won't walk all day!!!
