How many of you with a 5yo bring a stroller? Or do you prefer to rent as you go with a child of 5yo or older...

We usually bring our stroller, our daughter has been 1 and 3 on our last trips. I know 5yo doesn't typically use a stroller but as we know Disney is a lot of walking and the kiddos can get tired and want to be picked up, no matter the age lol!

Just curious to see what everyone else does with this age... I suppose it would make the most sense to rent as we need but any input is great :)

I will be renting a double stroller for my DS's 2 and 6. I was looking at the City mini or the Duallie from Kingdom strollers :)

I'm curious to know as well.

When we took DD to Disneyland last summer at age 4, we just had her walk (full days). But, then again, she hasn't used a stroller since a young age 3. We go on long walks every weekend, and DD does great. That said, it isn't quite as humid here as at DW.

I'm trying to decide if we should rent a double (we also have a will-be one year old), or just bring our single from home, and either rent another single (from an outside company) or rent as we go in the parks.

That said, we will be returning to our room after lunch almost every day for a nap/downtime, and only have two late evenings planned for the parks (optional third). Trying to avoid a double on the busses to MK and AK (we can walk/boat to other two, since we're staying at YC).

If your child is a good walker, I would probably just rent from Disney as needed, unless you plan on doing a lot of late nights, or doing a lot of trekking back and forth for FPs and/or ADRs.

I brought until he outgrew the stroller (right after he turned 5). Upcoming Disneyland trip will be our first strollerless trip and I'm wary.

No. All 4 of my kids were out of strollers at Disney after 4. By 5 they could all walk, and keep up, and walk pretty much all day with some small breaks in between. We never needed a stroller. Our twins just went again in Feb and they are now 6. They can keep up with the older two, and walked all day from opening to closing. I think you will be fine without one. If it gets bad, you can always rent in the park or take a break on a bench or back at the hotel. :thumbsup2

I would either bring one or rent from an outside company.

A 5 year old might do great while inside the parks, but sometimes there is a long walk from the hotel rooms to bus stops, and from bus stops to the park entrance.

And sometimes they are super tired at the end of the day.

In any case you can park your stroller near the park entrance or at one of the train stations and just pick it up when you need it.

And for the person doing Disneyland, the park has a lot less walking tan MK, since the attractions are really close together, that was the first park that my oldest did without a stroller and she did great, but depending on the walk to and from the hotel, you might consider a stroller for this part.

Our last trip was in September and we had our two 5 year olds and was celebrating our 3 year olds birthday. We rented 1 single and 1 double stroller for the trip. The 5 year olds really only sat in the stroller to go from 1 section of the park to another, they would walk from attraction to attraction in each section, stroller would stay in stroller parking. or to watch parades or to take a nap during the day. We rope drop and stay till closing most days. We're not a mid day break kind of family. Next trip we will just have the one stroller. We actually bought a city mini we loved it so much on our last two trips.

We are going for 2 days in July after another trip close by. A busy week with lots planned to do. DD is 4 and I will not be getting her a stroller.

DS's first trip he was 5 and I did not get him a stroller. It never occurred to me to get him one and he did fine on an 8 day trip.

We have rented from Orlando Stroller twice now and loved them. my DD's were 3 and 5 this last trip and while my 5yo walked some of the time, she liked having the stroller midday when she was a little tired or just didn't feel like walking. I hope next trip to just rent a single for my 3yo and see how DD5 does without one since it'll be a shorter trip in October. It's nice renting a stroller because its there when you arrive and they pick it up when youre done.

My DD was 4 during our last trip and will be 5 during this one. She didn't use the stroller a heck of a lot last time, but I didn't mind. I got it from Apple Stroller Rentals, where you only have to pay $5/day in insurance. It was $30 for our trip. And she DID use it enough to make it worthwhile, so I will be getting it again.

We bring our sit n stand for our 6 & 2 year old. She does like to use it to take breaks, especially at the end of the night it's great to have for her to rest while walking through the park to the bus & once off the bus to hotel room.

Many 5 year olds DO use and need a stroller. Our little guy did give up the stroller by 5 but we are not commando people at all. The year he was 5, we planned to rent as needed but he never wanted or needed it.

I would bring my lightweight maclaren stroller and use it mostly in the evenings when we went back to the parks after a break. I don't think I'd take it in the mornings, at least every day. For me the time I'd really want the stroller would be for the walk back to the bus or hotel at night - we stay in the Boardwalk area a lot, so no bussing after our Epcot, MK or Studios nights. They fall asleep and we can take our time walking back.

None of mine used a stroller after 4 at Disney. No problems and the trip my DS was 5 was over spring break so we were at the parks till very late at night, lots of 14+ hour days.

It is so freeing without the stroller!

My DD ( 8 )did not use a stroller anywhere other than WDW and DL after she took her first steps at 12 months. She wanted nothing to do with it (well except to push it) no matter how much walking was involved at the zoo mall etc. WDW and DL were different. She was high energy, but too young to have the stamina to go without it for a full Disney day even at age 5. She used it a lot on Disney trips. We brought it just in case she still needed it on her 5 year old trip and she needed it quite a bit. We were glad we had it. At age 6 she was walking the parks open to close without issue or complaint. I would say bring your own if you have one. You can always just park it and go back for it later if you don't need it.

We always took a cheap umbrella stroller when our kids were 5. It worked out great! It was especially useful when they would fall asleep on the bus heading back to the resort. It was easy to fold and unfold so we could plop them in the stroller as we exited the bus, then we could stop for drinks or snacks at the food court before heading back to our room for the night.
