Stroller for 7 yo????

A friend of mine said that I should rent a stroller or take a stroller for my 7yo. He was 3 the last time we took him so of course we had one then. We are already taking one for my 2 yo. Do I really need one for my 7 yo as well?

From what I remember of the strollers at WDW is they look very uncomfortable..... Any insight into this?

I would rent a double stroller there so that both kids can ride. If your 7 year old doesn't want to ride all the time, then you'll have an extra spot to put a bag or other items that you may not want to carry. We rented one for a 2 and 3 year old last time and the 7 and 10 year olds ended up hopping in periodically. It is a LOT of walking for them and it can really help cut down on the crankiness if they can get off their feet a bit.

As far as the comfortability factor, it didn't seem to be an issue for us. You could grab two towels from your hotel room to pad the seat a bit (plus the towels could be used to shade from the sun, wipe off wet seats, etc.).

I wouldn't rent one I don't think your 2yr old will be comfortable in it. Your 7yr old may not want it and may not want to be in it all day but by the end of the day he may want to be in one especially at the end of the night when you get off of the bus at your resort and you still have to walk a ways to get to your room you will appreciate it and he will. It is even great when you are in one area and trying to get to another kind of quickly you can just tell him to hop in and run. If you choose not to bring one for him you can rent on and disney so sells pretty decent umbrella strollers. If you decide to bring a stroller for him and you want a twin a good umbrella one is the jeep and the seats recline so they can both nap or you can use the seat for bags and stuff. Best of Luck

I have seen so many people yell nasty things at 6 to 10 year olds for just want to get off their feet for a little while. Just Magic Kingdom is 47 square miles!!! Would you ask your child to do that kind of a walk across your town??

Get 1 umbrella stroller with a sun shade, to use if you need to be able to shift the children. They are Cheap and will fold up small.

Rent a double!!!! It is comfortable enough for your 2 yrs old. My 1 year old was fine....7 yr old can hop in when they are exausted, and you will not be slowed down. When 7 yr old is walking, 2 yr old can lay across it to nap. this worked great for us, and I can not imagine how we would have got though a week there with out it! Also your 2 year old is old enough that they can walk or be carried on the trasportation, and you will not need to struggle with a stroller on the busses if you rent.

My DD is 6. This will be the first time in that last 3 times we went, that we will not have to bring a stroller. I did tell DH that if we plan on being in one of the parks all day, we might rent a stroller for her. She at times will complain about walking too much. I usually say to deal with it, but at WDW, I won't want to deal with the complaining. It is more walking than normal, so I say rent if you will be there all day. If it is 1/2 day or a shorter day, your 7 year old may not need it.

Are the strollers at Disney still the hard plastic kind that you either have to lay flat or sit up without back support?

Also, our "plans" at the moment are to do early mornings until about lunch, go back to the hotel rest and refresh after lunch then go back for the afternoon/night time. How would a stroller work that way? Would you still rent one for a day and what about park hopping?

We just returned last week. My youngest is 5. He made it 6 days without a stroller. Now, dh and I split up with the kids so that everyone got to do what they liked, and my youngest and I didn't walk fast and took breaks, but he did fine. A few nights we carried him out of the park, but he was a real trooper.

A good thing to consider is what time of year you are going. The heat can make it soo much worse on the younger ones.

I could be wrong but, I believe all of WDW was 47 sq miles not just the Magic Kingdom. That sure would be alot of walking.

We always rent a double stroller for my 7 yr old step daughter and 4 yr old step son...they'll be 8 and 5 this year and we will definitely rent a stroller. It's just so much walking and the heat can be pretty bad. You'd be surprised how much whining and fussing can be avoided by telling them to hop in and take a rest.

It's worth it...do it!

we rented one over the summer for our dd6, she is really tall and looks like she is about 8. We had many people look at us strangly. But i didn't mind it they get wore out much faster if they are walking and don't get to ride and rest some times. If your going to be at least 3 days or so it pays just to buy one that they have. So go ahead put those kids in a stroller.

I was concerned as well last year for DD8, but I did not have any problems she kept up no problem without complaints. I just had a plan if she was tired and needed a rest we would just shell out the money and rent a stroller for her, not the end of the world. We never needed it. Maybe because we had a casual trip. We enjoyed everything and just took our time. We also took a mid-day swimm which helped a lot. Personally I was take as wait and see how they do, if they need it rent it.

When you rent the stroller, you keep the receipt and it's good for the whole day even if you park hop. You just take the receipt to the stroller rental place and get another one. Also, if you purchase stroller vouchers for your whole week, it saves you money. Just ask for them at the counter on your first day of stroller rental.

I never think people should take a stroller with them if their children can walk on their own. That way your children can walk onto the bus themselves, walk into the parks and then have the strollers for just the park. Hauling the stroller around for a child who can walk for some distance seems like a huge amount of work for no real reason.

The comfort of the strollers really was not an issue for us. Pics of the double strollers:

I strongly recommend a stroller. If nothing else, they make a great carry-all.

If after the first few days you find you never use it, don't rent again.

I had an umbrella stroller for my little one but we ended up with a double rental a few times for the 5 yr old, we folded the umbrella one and laid it on top of the rental. We found that needed it at night even after taking a break during the day. One night, we lucked out and found an abandonded one (no name tag) at Toon Town Train station. We had planned to take the train to the front and found out the hard way thay the trains were no longer stopping there. There were alot of empty stollers so we grabbed a double and it made it so much easier the rest of the night. They are a great height to push, it is even easier if you are tall so you can actually see the front and not run over innocent people.

I think it all depends on your child, some would never ride in a stroller, the last time we went, my kids were 11months, and we rented a double for my dd3 and 5, but of course they were still pretty young. But I will be renting one this time also , it will be the week of my dd5's 6th bday and dd7's 8th bday. ANd of course my dd2 will have our own stroller. When are you going, is it going to be hot, that's why I said we are definately renting one, we're going in june, and the heat in itself will be tiring. And like others said if your child doesn't ride you have more storage space, you can never have enough of that in Disney

We always rent a double stroller. My DS can walk ALL day. . .But I would RATHER him save his energy for when we are trying to carry DD and all our loot to the bus. Plus it is wonderful if it rains. I have both of them where I can keep up with them. UNDER an adult poncho!!! Don't remember when you are going. . .but in the HOT Sept rain falls. . it is the best way to go. They are covered from the rain but are not as hot as they would be if they were wearing ponchos.

I vote for RENT A STROLLER!!

We were there last October and my husband thought the 6 year old was too old for a stroller, but after getting sick of hearing him repeatedly tell her to walk faster my sister who was along for the trip went and got a double for her. We only used one when we were in Epcot, but we seemed to be there a lot.(Food and Wine Festival). By the end of the week my small 11 year old was hopping into it too.

Could my children have made it walking all of the time, definately yes, was everyone happier when they didn't need too? YES!

I have to disagree. We went when my DS was 5 over Easter with very long days for a week and he was fine, had more energy than I did and there was no way I was pushing him all day. Went in Aug. when he was 7 and for 10 days and again no stroller. Kids have as much energy and stamina as adults and if we can walk it so can they. In Gym 2x a week they start the class by running a mile! I couldn't do that. I would not deal with the hassle of a stroller if I could avoid it, it is very freeing the first time you go with no stroller and realize how little you really need to carry all day.
