Stroller for 7 year old

Ok so we know our daughter will be in a stroller at least part of the time while at Disney. Here is what I keep going back and forth with.......
Should we just rent a Disney stroller whenever we need one or should we bring one with us? I really didn't want to be carrying around a stroller on busses etc. when she won't need one untill being in the parks and walking for a while. BUT... who wants to pay those prices for those stollers???

Our daughter is very petite and is only 36 lbs. So other than being too long for our old stroller , she would probably fit.
What do others do that have older kids who spend some time in the stroller at Disney?

On our trip in May I rented 2 doubles for my girls (7, 5, 4, and 2) all four rode and even slept in them. We were in the MK all day from open to close at 1am. On me and my DDs last trip for NOJ she had her birthday over the summer so she was 8 now. She asked but we never got one. I was just going to rent one at the parks cause it would be cheaper. She did good and we did a lot of walking and staying up late. I would just play it by ear unless you know for sure she will need it. Also if it will be cheaper to just rent off site.

We are still going back and forth on a stroller for DS5. our older boys 9 and 11 never used a stroller in the past and DS5 is a strong and alert kid but I just dont know.. I'm thinking we will go ahead and packa a stroller and leave in the room JIC.

I don't think the Disney strollers looked particularly comfortable or easy to drive. Also, you have to leave them in the park, and sometimes on the way home is when you need them the most.

I would bring your stroller, and use it when you have a heavy park day planned. If you're just heading out for a few hours you can leave it in your room, but if you're rocking Epcot all day, bring it.

For us, we're renting a double when we go in December for our 6 3/4 year olds. We'll use it for busy walking days like Epcot, but probably not when we're just popping over to the MK for the morning.

I second that!! The first time I brought my sons they were 7 & 5. Their legs work so they walked.

Our oldest is similar to yours, 7 years old and about 35 lbs lol. We didn't bring a stroller. It after day 1 or 2 we bought a small umbrella stroller for her. I wasn't happy about it, but it was that or carry her or she was whining and once we had it the trip was much more enjoyable.

We were going at a very slow pace, but more than being tired the kids were complaining their feet hurt. They're both in multiple dance classes year round and play soccer/softball year round so it's not as if they aren't used to physical activity! Heck, our feet hurt too and the only reason I wasn't whining was because that's unbecoming of an adult lmao. I'd bring one if you can, skip it the first day and go from there if you don't want or can't rent the Disney strollers.

I'll 3rd this sentiment. My girls were 6.5(one very petite at 35lbs) ad my son turned 5 (also petite lil guy at 35lbs). No stroller they've been stroller free since they were all 2 (my girls used to push my son in our double stroller at all of 18 months)

We had some loooong park days, but they did just fine. Sat down and waited at night for the bus, fell asleep on the bus then they'd walk to our room and fall asleep there. Our last night my daughter tried to curl up and fall asleep in the hotel lobby as we worked out the details(switched hotels last night) but other than the they did just fine.

But to be honest I wish I never asked. It broke my heart to ask a simple question and to have people be rude. If this is so terrible of a question to look at then DON"T. skip over it and go to another thread.

Is there a definite reason why she would need one, like a disability? If not I would just rent one if needed because you may find she doesn't want/need to be in one anyway.
Or, you could bring a lightweight umbrella stroller with you, strap it to your shoulder and if she doesn't want to use it, push your stuff around in it.

We always rent a Disney double stroller. So convienant and kids love them.
Kinda like their home base for stuff.
Next year when we go my kids will be 11,7, 2.
I'm 100% positive my 7 year old will ride in it with the 2 year old. And that's fine with me. She has no disability she plays sports, dances takes gymnastics
But it's a lot of walking.

I like having it too for food drinks and souvenirs. And give kids a place to relax or nap. Works for my family.
I have great kids. Probably best behaved of all my friends. But when their tired they can be cranky and having a stroller helps with that. Makes me happier...lol.

PLEASE don't sweat it. Historically there have been many 'older kids in stroller' questions that have gotten pretty heated. Sometimes there are posters called 'trolls' that post something just to stir up controversey. I can tell that you are not...so don't take it personally.

For some reason people really feel strongly about it. Doesn't make sense to me. We stopped using one at 4yo, but honestly, had I continued to use one, we would have moved a lot faster and saved time not stopping more frequently for snacks/etc.

My advice is to bring one from home. The Disney ones are expensive and uncomfortable. A lightweight, umbrella-type stroller that will be easy to collapse on the buses. She isn't going to be using it all the time, nor napping in it, nor do you have to bring a ton of little-kid stuff with you, so you don't need the extra stroage. Sometimes you spend a good deal of time waiting for buses, and it will be nice for her to have a place to chill as well.

Apparently not. An adult wouldn't get so personally upset when presented with opposing opinions. I suggest you don't read answers which upset you.

My opinion is that a stroller for an able bodied 7 year old is ridiculous and the fact is, this issue has been discussed to death here. If you don't agree, that is fine.

Unless a child has a problem walking, a child who is capable of walking should.

Years ago I was a cub scout leader taking 20 scouts on a 5 day camping trip to our council's cub camp, I had a scout who is dying of a illness that slowly shuts down the nervous system and he will only live until 16 or so. He had a hard time walking and working his hands. The doctor wrote a note to the camp so he could have a wagon to ride in if he wanted. The whole 5 days the wagon was only used for caring his back pack. He kept up with the group better than the lazy or chubby scouts. PS I wore a pedometer and we walked about 35 miles on the 5 days.

Be thank full that your child can walk.

I agree. DD was 7 on our last trip and having the stroller was a lifesaver.

All you had to do was search for stroller thread and got your all your answers.

You could do a search for 95% of the questions asked on the Dis. If you don't want to answer, then don't. No need to yell at someone for asking a question.

DD is 6 and I would not consider taking her to Disney without a stroller. Sometimes we park it and return for it later. Sometimes she rides all day. We go during very busy times so it is easier for all 3 of us. She is the type who will run till exhausted then whine. We rarely stay to fireworks but love having a place to put things and not drag or carry a tired child at the end of the night.

And ask any question you want! Never read you had to search before asking...the magic band questions were all pretty annoying but guess what? I chose not to open OR to respond rudely.
