Stroller connector things...Do they work for 2 different strollers?

We are considering getting a twin/double stroller for our 3 yo and our 4 mo old.
One thing we were wondering before we would buy a double is if the connectors would work with 2 different strollers?
What do you think?

It might work in a pinch (i.e. crying baby when walking thru parking lot), but it would make a TERRIBLE double stroller. I can't stand the steering on many strollers that were designed and engineered to be doubles, so I would never want to push a stroller with a connector for any length of time.

They would have to be very similar with bars at the exact same angle.
