Where can I get a bag to put our Maclaren Triumph in when we gate check it at the airport? I see that Target has an actual Maclaren one BUT its $49.99, I really dont want to spend alot of $$$ for it.:scared1: Please tell me a less expensive bag is out there :confused3
Thanks :)

I guess I don't understand the reasoning behind having a bag for gate-checking a stroller. Could someone please explain why these are so useful? Thanks

Oooooh even better! The procratinator in me that hasnt ordered it yet thanks you! The local Walmart does participate in site to store.

I wanted the cheap bag to protect my expensive stroller. :)

It keeps it from getting nasty when they put it below and from getting things torn and banged up. They don't handle those things very nicely.:)

Thanks, good to know for the future I guess. We just returned from WDW last week and luckily didn't have any problems with our stroller get damaged. Has anyone here had their strollers damaged or known someone who has?

Is it me just being hopeful or does this look like the handles are those of a Peg Perego P3? (It's still so big folded up, I'm concerned that it won't fit...)

I am wondering the exact same thing....if a P3 would fit in this bag...ANYONE?!

Got it! (actually, I got it a few days after I posted my question and just threw it in our travel drawer - so when I saw your post just now, I ran out to the garage and tried it.)

The 2006 Peg Perego P3 fit just fine - but I had to remove the snack tray. There is room in the top to slide it in after you get the stroller in, but it took up too much space with the wheels etc when sliding it all in the bag together.

Any bigger of a wheel base when folded (than the P3) or any taller and it probably won't fit. I forgot I had the handles extended when I put it in and it would cover them - but as soon as I realized that and put them back in the standard position, the bag closed just fine and dandy.

I admit, I did pay for shipping. For the 3 or 4 dollars it cost, it was worth it to me to not have to drive anywhere (at $3+ a gallon) and to not have to take DS into a store - especially into the skanky Wal-Mart. I did a web search - put the product in 4 or 5 shopping carts and compared the total cost including shipping - choose who was the cheapest. (Don't remember who I ordered it from, but shipping might vary based on where you live anyway)

HTH!

Yup. Me. With our $300+ Evenflo travel system.

First trip it was in an Eddie Bauer travel bag we got from BRU. Arriving in Las Vegas, they didn't even bring it back to the gate! We had to carry DS, his car seat and our luggage all the way to baggage claim to get the stroller. (didn't check any luggage!) {That's part of the reason I love the huge "GATE CHECK" text on this red bag. Maybe we'll always get it back AT THE GATE!}
Then when we arrived home, they dragged it instead of lifting it with the straps or USING THE WHEELS the bag had and put holes in the bag and scratched up some of the pressure points on the stroller. Got rid of the bag.

Next trip - (no bag) They grabbed the axle of the stroller and dragged the handles on the ground all the way from the airplane up to the gate. Tore the h*** out of my stroller that I had tried so hard to keep in great shape. I was livid. Had to use sand paper to smooth out the plastic spikes/gouges created from their abuse. Got to where it wasn't dangerous, but it still never looked decent again. :(

Next trip - the canopy got some abrasions and grease marks that I could never get out on it.

Yep, American Airlines tore up my newborn's $300++ Graco; the back was ripped, the rear axel was bent and it got filthy. I had to buy something new when we arrived as the stroller was un-useable. AA refused to do anything about it as gate check is at your own risk, just like checking your luggage. I refuse to fly that airline because of it; rotten customer service.

I bought a Sit-n-Stroll for travel now, it's great, but since it doesn't recline not great for the parks. But, when going to DL or WDW, I also bring along a used stroller I bought off Craigslist. It's a Peg Perago, I bungee it closed, put it in a large heavy duty garbage sack, duct tape it and check it; if it gets damaged I can rent one at the parks but so far it's survived many trips without any damage and one of the best strollers I've ever used.

great thread, I will have two Maclarens with us this trip (both fairly new) and although we have gate checked strollers w/o sustaining damage in the past I am wondering about this option:

The Maclarens come encased in a pretty heavy duty plastic bag when you purchase them? I'm thinking of using this at gate check? Just twist tying the top closed ? Or rubber banding it? duct tape?! I need my strollers for both airport and resort and Disney. Should I just invest in two of these stroller bags or try the plastic thing at least for this trip?:confused3

wwyd?

I would recommend buying the bags if you are gate checking. The people who work the gate check have to carry the strollers down the stairs to the cargo hold, with the bags they have a handle so less chance of it/them getting dropped or dragged.

Considering the bad experiences I've had, I'd say get the bags. They're not very expensive and the handle will make it easier for you to carry down the jetway (remember you DO have to get them down the jetway while dealing with your kids and carryon luggage!) and the handles will also make it easier for the ground crew to get your strollers down the stairs to the cargo area. Less likely for them to drop them/drag them as they're trying to get as much as they can in one trip...

Also consider what you have to go through at the gate once you claim your stroller.

If you duct tape the plastic bag, you're not going to be able to get it open easily when you need it at the airport. I'd worry that a twist tie would slide off and they'd (unintentionally) dump the stroller out of the bag because they didn't see which end was up.

Hello. I have been lurking for quite a while and have decided to come out of hiding. When my son was 4 we took him to WDW (1993). We gate checked the stroller in JFK and got it back at MCO so damaged we couldn't use it. The airline gave us a 'loaner' that you could hardly even push. We ended up renting a stroller every day. Airline had ours "fixed" which we received when we got to the airport to go home.

Now DD is going to be 4. Celebrating her bd at WDW as well :wizard: I just bought the MacLaren Triumph and have been searching for something to put it in to prevent the same thing from happening again. I just ordered the red gate check bag.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! It's just what I was looking for.

I know this isn't the budget board (or is it? I seem to have a problem posting in the right place  ) but I do want to point out that the if you have access to a sewing maching and even the most basic sewing skills, making a stroller bag is a super easy project -- like middle school home-ec class easy -- and much cheaper than buying one. Plus you can customize it for size, etc. A few years ago I needed one and couldn't find anything for less than $50, so I made myself one for around $3 and less than an hour of my time :)

I'm not knocking the red bag others have suggested. It's reasonably priced and it gets the job done. And sometimes, when you're rushing around before a trip trying to get everything ready, your time is more valuable than your money. But, if you aren't sure it will fit your stroller, or you want to save a few $, making your own is the way to go. :thumbsup2

OK, so just where did you find a durable fabric for less than $3 a yard? (Because this would take over 1 yard of fabric if you have one of the bigger umbrella strollers like the Peg Perego P3) Even a flimsy cotton is more than $3 a yard and that won't hold up to the abuse a baggage handler would give it.
I'm not being snotty! I seriously want to know where you get your fabric if you can find it that cheap! I need to shop there!
Light nylon fabrics like the one the red gate check bag are made of start at $7.50 a yard IF you're lucky enough to find it on sale. Usually it's around $10-$15 a yard.
