Stroller as wheel chair

Folding strollers bend very easily. My DS was an ENORMOUS toddler and we were replacing them every couple of months because he was bending the frames, and we couldn't find one meant for heavier children. We were at the point of trying to find a special needs one (and they looked more like wheelchairs in those days) when we finally just gave up and made him walk (which was interesting, trust me). NJ transit always made me fold it.

now this is just my opinion :duck: but if they're not designed to be strapped down, why can they just let you on without strapping it down - I 'd be quite happy, to put the break on and stand behind it - or is it a legal requirement in Florida that they have to be strapped?

Yer Kidding, right?! in no way whatsoever is it remotely safe to just park a stroller on a bus.

one, they take up a ton of room and can cause other passengers to trip.

one wide turn and it tips over.

one sudden stop and brakes or no, it can become a projectile.

they block the aisles to prevent safe egress by other passengers.

As to the taking up room and blocking the aisle, I was thinking of the buses having a designated space like with the wheelchairs.

Secondly I am in no way kidding, as I said in the UK everyday we have load of buses hooning around the country with Strollers on them just parked up with the child still in place (in a designated areas) and there is no problems or injuries and it works just fine.

Actually quiet funny how different countries do things as most of you guys think I'm crazy for suggesting it and I think it's crazy that I can't do it.

i rented a stroller/chair from the orlando stroller company. The one I got was rated for 100 lb. They also do have special chairs so you can hook up your accessories like ventilators.

I was just there and someone just opened there stroller the driver stopped in the middle of the road and said they would not move until the stroller is folded, so no you will not be allowed to have a stroller opened let a lone a child in the stroller.

if I remember correctly strollers have to be folded by law and there is no special place to put stroller. there would not be room for some one to stand with stroller in wheelchair space

huh?! there is barely enough room on the buses to hold 2 Mobility devices( wheelchair, ECV) let alone taking away MORE room for a stroller. when me and my wc are on the bus we take up THREE seats and make it not safe for anyone to stand next to me and hold the grab bars( I have given many a person bruised shins when the bus shifts and they hit my chair)

then how do you decide who gets to use said space?! I can just see the fights that would break out because someone has decided that THEIR sleeping child is entitled to the spot even though someone else got there first and what sort of size limit do you impose? some of these strollers are freaking behemoths and are bigger than my wheelchair!

Firstly a quick apologies to the OP as I have so highjacked this thread with my crazy English ways.

Wouldn't think they would allow it, this steamed from Disney buses on my last trip (as my stroller had a wheelchair sticker) strapping it down in the wheelchair space. - I have since been informed this was naught of them.

Then this lead on to my wider train of though, as if strapping them down is dangerous why don't they just let them on the Disney buses; and only if they had the sticker and a need. I wasn't suggesting @Mrsjvb for all Strollers as that would just end up with a bus full of strollers (nightmare). If they had the sticker I think like with wheelchairs it would work on a first come first served basis.

But now know thanks to

probably not the best idea to put in the Disney suggestion box.

This is just a cultural thing as over her it's totally fine on buses, so my train of thought was from what I know and I'm used to.

I am honestly not a crazy person trying to turn all the buses into stroller parks and endanger children lol

Most public transit buses in America are JUST like the ones at Disney. I don't know if you have similar vehicles in London but all I know y'all do have is those tourist double-decker buses....

Do your bus drivers have a limit on how many strollers and accessible devices can be on the bus at once? We have limits here... These North American buses, there's room in the bus for maybe TWO accessible benches at the front door . Disney goes the extra distance and designs a middle section that can be used for an ECV.

These small sections of seats fold up and down to accommodate different needs. If you have a stroller then you lift the seats and park there. If you have a wheelchair you lift and wheel in and secure yourself. If you have a rollator, you sit down and perch with your rollator in front of you.

Three people show up with strollers, one of them is going to be waiting for the next bus. 2 strollers, one rollator? Sorry, one stroller family has to wait for the next bus. 4 rollators, okay that's fine, but 5 means that someone will be asking for another passenger's seat and there will be trouble if they can't fold up the rollator so it's not in the aisle. Yes this is a serious problem if you have an appointment or something time-sensitive.

Somehow Disney needs to get all these people transported in a timely fashion so they INSIST on folding all strollers and jamming people in unless it's a medical necessity. But at least when I've ridden forms of public transit, most drivers draw the line at 2 strollers/4 rollator users, and they just tell the others that they have to wait for the next bus. If you're kind and have folded up your umbrella stroller and made it as unobtrusive as say, an umbrella, then you stand a better chance, but the driver is likely to not let you on the bus unless this has already happened and you're ready to get on the bus. Not waiting until he pulls up and then unpacking everything/everyone. But that doesn't apply to double strollers, car seat-carrying models, or anything more substantial.

I suspect it's not actually any safer in the UK than it is here, but I bet the bus company is far less likely to get sued for letting you leave the stroller open with the child in it.
