Stroller advice

Hi All,

I am bringing my 7 and 5 year old in November for the first time and am trying to decide if I should rent the disney strollers or rent from an online company. My boys are 50 and 60lbs and are 46" and 52" tall. I want to do what's easiest for park hopping and navigating the parks. Any thoughts or previous experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I think it depends on your kids if they would even need one. We are going in October and I said something about renting a double stroller for the 5 year and 11 month old. My ds immediately told me he was a big boy and big boys don't use strollers. I am still renting the double from a rental company just in case since I need one for the 11 month old anyways. If it was just the 5 year old I think I would play it by ear and rent from Disney if I did need it.

When my oldest DS was 5 he still needed a stroller to navigate the parks with, but he wasn't in it for the entire length of the day. When we took him again when he was 7 he walked the entire park. The only day he really had an issue with walking was the day we walked World Showcase. I think your kids are old enough that 1 stroller should suffice and they could switch off and on. I don't think either of your kids are going to want to be in the stroller the entire time. I would rent an off site stroller they are WAY cheaper and more comfortable than the standard Disney strollers. Just make sure you rent a stroller that is big enough to handle your older child's weight and you should be good to go!

My kiddos are 7 and 3. I rented a double from on outside company. They probably won't use it a lot, but it is great to have when leaving the park, someplace to sit waiting for shows, the walk to the resort (we are staying at BC) and to keep our bag

At that age I wouldn't think you would need one very often, if at all. I would just wait and rent from disney if you find you are needing a stroller.

Do you WANT to take a stroller? If yes then take one for sure. Maybe a single sturdy one that both kids can take turns riding in (aka not a cheap umbrella stroller). My 6 yo preferred riding with the 1.5yo so a double rented from kingdom strollers was a godsend. We will be doing it again this year with 7 and 2.5 year olds. I liked having them both in 1 spot when we were walking, especially in crowds.

If you DONT want to take a stroller, wait and see how it goes. You can always rent one in the parks. At 7 and 5 they likely won't be napping so a reclining stroller with a giant cannot won't be a necessity. The park ones are sturdy for bigger kids.

We went last month with extended family. I asked my SIL if she was going to rent a stroller for her 4yr old and she scoffed at me about how he was way too big for a stroller. I rented a double for my 4yr old and 2yr old. By the end of the 1st day (which was a half day 2pm-8pm), my SIL asked me who I rented from. She rented a single and her 7yr old fought with his brother over the stroller constantly. He hadn't riden in a stroller since he was 2.

Hi! I am renting a stroller from an offsite company for our upcoming last minute trip. My 5yo is a walker and my thought process is we will most likely need it on the park days I have planned for late afternoon til close. DBF thinks I'm crazy but he will be appreciative when she's passed out by 10 and no one has to carry her. lol

My question is "What would you do if your boys were tired and wanted (needed) to be carried?" When I went to Disney with my extended family 20 years ago we did not bring or rent strollers for my 5 year old nephew. However, Dad was willing and able to carry him piggy back if needed. Fast forward 15 years. My Mom and I are alone at DisneyWorld with my 4 and 7 year old nieces. Neither one of us was able to carry them if needed. We purchased an inexpensive double umbrella stroller and were very glad we did. The 4 year old feel asleep in the stroller almost every afternoon in the parks and my Mom just sat with her while her sister and I continued to tour. They also had a habit of falling asleep on the bus on the way home. It was really nice to be able to get off the bus and settle them down in the stroller for the walk back to the hotel room. The next year at ages 5 and 8 we did not use a stroller. However, we found we did need to return to the room earlier in the evening and take more breaks throughout the day.

It all depends on how your family wants to tour the parks.

I have also rented my stroller for my 5 year old. These parks are brutal and will wear you out, plus they are nice to have for storage and piece of mind! For 5 Park days I will gladly pay $84 so when he is tired, sleepy or we need to get some where quickly we will have it!

I'm bringing one stroller that fits both my 6 yo son and my 18 months baby and a baby carrier. This way, we won't have a big bulky stroller to carry, but my son will be able to have a break when he needs it.

2 years ago, we rented a double scroller with a glider board for 3 kids and they switch turn... maybe consider a simple stroller with a glider board?

Edit after re-reading the original question: I think an outside rental would be cheaper and you'll have a stroller with you at all time, not only in the parks? It all depends on your children, if they're active, if they are cranky when tired, etc.

Thank you all for the advice! My children, especially my four year old, will tire easily. They are morning people, but don't do well as they the day wears on. I will definitely need a stroller and will look into some of the outside companies.

Do you think that your children will def need a stroller at thier age? If you know for certain that they will, I would rent a single from an outside place. The strollers are more comfy and you would have it for around your resort as well.
If you are on the fence and not really sure, I'd say just rent at the park if you need it. Less hassle.

That's a lot of weight to have to be pushing - almost 20 pounds more that my HS sophomore, and I can't imagine pushing her. I'd go with a park double, pretty easy to push. We rented one for our kids when they were 4, 4, and 6, combined they were about 90 pounds, and it was manageable.

Since you are going in November, you can try a day without stroller and see how your children do. If you need one, there should be strollers available from the park or from off-site companies.

50 pounds on each seat, 100 pounds combined.

I think you'll definitely want one for your younger son. I would typically recommend a city mini GT since they have a higher weight limit, so they could alternate if needed, but if your older son is already 60 lbs--- that's the max for that stroller and you still have until November. If you really think older son will need one, you may be best off renting in park as it can handle the weight. If you only need it for the little one, offsite will be cheaper and more comfortable.

We are going with 2 boys 8 and 5. We are renting a stroller... they may not need to"ride" in it during the day, but it is a cooler place for them to sit, ride if they want and it won't break Papa'said back as he and mom carry the boys asleep to the room at night.
