Stroller advice

We need a stroller for our upcoming trip that will hold up to 50 pounds and has *tall* handles.

I love our The First Years "Ignite" (in the super cute out of print Minnie design, no less!) but trying to push it caused serious back pain for the rest of the adults last time. They're 6'3" and 6'4" and I can't be the only one pushing for 10 days.

Lightweight/folds small is a bonus. Inexpensive is a super bonus. We are not having more kids, so handing down or reusing is not an issue, but we *do* want it for the airports- there's a special needs component and we are reluctant to just rent in Florida.

I have an Uppababy Gluxe stroller that I love. The handle bar is 42 inches tall and can hold a 55lb child. They have the G lite which is cheaper but still holds 55 lb with the same handle height. They are very light weight and I personally love the brand. I had an uppababy Vista for 6 years that went through my 2 kids and held up so well I was able to pass it down to my BIL for his baby. I know handing it down isn't an issue but with a 55lb weigh limit you should be able to get a few miles out of it.

There aren't more miles to get. This trip is the only time this stroller will be used. A $300 model is overkill for our purposes.

Since you are only using it for this trip why don't you loo into renting 1? You can rent those weird strollers at the park or some of the scooter rental places rent out strollers as well. They might have something you need.

There aren't more miles to get. This trip is the only time this stroller will be used. A $300 model is overkill for our purposes.

The G-lite is cheaper and you can resell it when you get back or buy second hand. Most strollers I've see with high handles and weight limits are more expensive so second hand might be a really good option. I wouldn't want to spend $300 for a one time use either!

You could also bring your stroller for the airports and rent a second stroller in Florida.

This is the stroller that we used for our trip last year and will use again in Feb. My husband is 6'8" and my OS is 6'4" and they were comfortable pushing it. It also folds up nicely and has a strap to carry on your shoulder. I found that the carry strap came in very handy for getting on and off of transports. We got ours from buy buy baby and used a 20% off coupon, so I think it was around $50.

What about using your Ignite in the airport and renting a nicer/taller stroller for the parks? Then bring the Ignite home with you for the return trip. (And then, hand it off to me! Hehehehe...I so wanted that one for our little girl, but the teal one was on clearance for $35, so we got teal.)

I know the G-Lite is out of your budget, but it is a great stroller. We bought one 8 years ago (on clearance), mainly only use it for Disney trips, zoo trips etc. We will be using it again for our trip in January, which may be the last time we use it. It is super light, secure and has tall handles, which is so nice.

City Mini GT. Says child needs to be under 65 pounds and less than 49 inches in height. Doesn't say how tall the handles are??

You could call/email the stroller rental places and ask about the height of the handles.

Does the Ignite work for you, other than the height? Could you modify the handles so they're taller? Maybe buy a dirt cheap umbrella stroller and take off the handles and attach them to the Ignite to lengthen the handles?

(and I'm only half joking when I ask what shipping the Ignite would be from CA to ME...or how much it would cost to ship just the fabric parts!)

I'll be honest, we used the 3D lite for 6 months as our backup "keep in the car" stroller to our City Mini GT. Loved it in the store. But pretty quickly we came to hate it.

It requires two hands to turn it (trying to open a door and push this thing through is... shudder), it was crazy unwieldy when moving, and our larger under two year old was not only cramped but was dragging his feet in it. Plus the seat was shallow, so the crotch strap was too tight, even loosened all the way. The sun visor was a joke (though to be fair, most are compared to the gargantuan one on City Mini).

The fold up required two hands (well, a foot and two hands), and was tricky in that you had to do it in the perfect sequence of popping one section before the other to fold it or it would seize up. DH is only 5'10" but kicked the back all the time. After a month he refused to use it, but I held out bc it was easier in tight aisles and took up a little less space in the car. Plus I'd just spent $60 on it! By the time I gave up on it, and started using the city mini again, I couldn't believe the difference. Comparably, the City Mini was like pushing and turning a feather (seriously, my kiddo is 34 lbs, but I can push it with my index finger!)

Could I use it again for a trip to the mall? Sure. But if I had to use it for more than a few days, let alone with WDW mileage it would be like the fax destroying scene in Office Space.

I know the City Mini isn't an option for you given the price, but I would check some resell shops first just in case. Personally, Mini do what the above poster suggested which is bring a cheaper stroller with you, but still rent the City Mini (GT, it has a tilting handle which helps for tall, long stride parents). Pushing a larger kiddo for miles is no joke. It's worth it to make it easier on yourself.

That's good to know, thank you. I may also look for handle extenders for the Ignite. A friend offered to loan me her MacLaren, too. The handles on the 3d and G lite are both 42". The MacLaren is 41.5". I can't even find the specs for the Ignite for comparison.
