Strikes in France

They said on TV earlier this afternoon the fuel problem for airports have been sorted out even though strikes will go on, that's really scary for anyone travelling in the next days :scared1:

For those of you flying from the UK, I wouldn't worry too much about the Airport/Aviation fuel issues. Most Paris bound UK flights can carry enough fuel for the return journey (and then some), I would assume in such circumstances that the airlines will take this into consideration! I know that when we have flow in the past on Easyjet from Liverpool the return flight didn't take on any fuel at CDG.... :thumbsup2

And as i use to say: as long as i can get there where i want to go, if i have troubles coming back that will be less important :lmao:

Scanned the Q & A Can't see anything about not taking fuel on the tunnel. DH can borrow one via work, but I am hoping it won't come to that.

It would be great if anyone who is going / coming back soon can give an update re petrol stations and Euro Tunnel when they get home.

Thanks

This is the link to the bit on the eurotunnel website about carrying fuel:

http://www.eurotunnel.com/ukcP3Main/ukcPassengers/ukcCompany/ukcTermsAndConditions/ukpFuel.htm

Basically you can carry up to 2 (fit for purpose) plastic containers max of 5 litres each and/or up to 2 (fit for purpose) metal containers max of 10 litres each, but no more than 20 litres of fuel in total.

Hope that helps.[/QUO

Thanks so much for this. 2 x 10litres will be enough. Feeling much happier now also does meen less boot space and as we have a Matix we did not start with much.

I checked my Travel Insurance policy today as I am starting to panic that these strikes may last into December and found this in the small print.

What You Are Not Covered For:
In addition to the General Exclusions of the policy, the Insurer shall not be responsible for:

Claims arising from the failure of public transport services caused by strike, riot or civil, commotion.

I think that means I'wont be covered if the rail strikes effect the Direct Eurostar services.:confused3

...is it likely that these strikes will continue into the coming months? I hadn't really thought of it affecting our trip in early November but if Jonjo is worrying about December maybe I should worry

Well.....
We are headinng to DLP via Eurotunnel on Sat (with 2 plastic petrol containers full!!) but having managed to get stuck in Malta at Easter for an extra week due to the volcanic ash cloud I don't think work would be very understanding if I now go and get stranded in DLP!!!

Well there are worse places to get stranded. If I were you I would fill up at the first petrol station you see in France and then again at the one opposite the Santa Fe when you arrive.

we go ( via eurotunnel) early Fri morning
will fill up @ Folkestone and then should be fine, hubbys car does 500+ miles to a tank

I am a natural worrier anyway. Hopfuly all this could blow over soon.

We can do the trip there and back on one tank but are staying at campsite 15 min drive away so will be toing and froing a lot during the week!

We are also booked on the Eurotunnel for Saturday. I think I will definitely be filling up a jerry can with diesel even if my car is economical! My Mum and Dad got back from their other house in Brittany last Thursday. Although they managed to get fuel, they did notice overnight, that fuel prices had increased substantially.

We got back last night. Our flights were fine but our train to CDG was cancelled yesterday. We were told to catch an earlier train, which we did with no problem. Most trains were either cancelled or delayed (quite heavily in some cases).

We didn't go to Paris as we'd planned because we didn't want to get caught up in the protests- they looked quite scary on the news!

Hi, we fly from Manchester to CDG next fri for the DLP Halloween weekend, really hope we can still get there ok, the news says airport workers are to join in the strikes too! :scared1: xxx

Thought they already were, hence so many cancelled flights today.
So far so good for us our flights are still on for tomorrow and easyjet still taking bookings for our flights so I'm feeling optimistic. Just hope the taxi company has fuel.

We go sunday morning on Eurotunnel and even if we fill up at Folkestone we will not have enough fuel to get there and back and drive to the parks each day.

Current news reports say that it is extremely difficult to get diesel in and around Paris. It may be worth topping up half way to Paris? and then you should be able to do the same again on the way back to Calais?

We leave on sunday too, but luckily our car will get us there and back, and as we are staying on-site we don't intend to use the car while we are there.

I really hope this is all resloved before then though!
