Month before moving into apartment in Boynton Beach, FL and very stressed over move from Raleigh, NC. Still need to get house painted/repaired, pack, and plan move. My work keeps me traveling all the time and I have not been home in two weeks to help with any of the move (my partner is handling most of it). Any suggestions for keeping calm during move/house selling process? :cool1:

Nope. The whole process stinks and you just have to live through it.

I hate moving. When we bought our house, I told my DH that the next thing going out of the house in a box was me, because I would not move again!!!!

You have the easy end of it, imagine what your partner is going through!!! WE have moved more then I care to think about, the most recent just 3 weeks ago. DH has always gone on ahead to start work and I have been left to take care of everything. It is just one of those things you have to just do.

Nope, you will not be able to "remain calm". However....you can do things to make yourself feel less out of control.

For example, with DH and I, we make lists (and update daily) so that way we know we are on the same page.

Just chatting for 5 minutes about the expectations and what got done as opposed to what didn't helps. So take 5 or 10 mins to regroup with your partner daily, even on the road. Have a 10 minute "moving chat".
Then you can talk about other things so you keep it balanced.

Is your partner a "painter-type"? If not, hire someone if you can. That can really speed things up for you.

We are fans of renting a storage shed prior to the selling process. It helps to prepack, get rid of clutter and then you can "stage your house" beautifully.
It also gets anything out of the house you don't want in there while people are walking through checking it out.
I love the storage shed, but we have alot of stuff to go through, so it really helps us.

Good Luck! I am still unpacking from moving 1yr & 3 months ago. UGH...still too much clutter to get rid of.

Thanks for the advice. What we have decided to do is move in two stages. Instead of renting huge moving van (which neither of us wants to drive), we are getting 14' truck, moving half of our items and putting into storage, flying back to Raleigh, then two weeks later doing it all again for the remainder when we can move into apartment (one of us will drive up with one car following van, leave at new apartment complex and then drive up with our other car on the next load). Thought about getting a storage pod dropped off at our house, filling it up, then having company move it to apartment. When we found out cost (over $2,000) we decided to move ourselves.
